Wonderful and relaxing stayJust returned from a wonderful 9 night stay at the Caramel. My comments echo what has already been said by other guests. Excellent welcome upon arrival, we were also upgraded to a large family room (thank you), very relaxing pool with plenty of space, good service for drinks around the pool throughout the day, all areas were clean and of high standard. I had booked dinner, bed and breakfast as part of the deal with Secret Escapes. The main dining offer is buffet style which is not something I usually enjoy. However, at the Caramel the standard and range of food was excellent. Fresh salads, local specialties, and an ever changing main menu throughout the week. The BBQ was also an great addition. The dining area offered a lovely terrace overlooking the pool which was very popular therefore if you arrived at a busy time, you may be disappointed. That said Oggy and his team were excellent at delivering a wonderful experience and offered a drink at the bar whilst a table was prepared - what could be better than that! Oggy was also highly amusing and great fun, very professional and managed the dining room with great expertise. The option to dine in the a la carte dining room with the set menu was an added bonus. The set menu provided a choice of two dishes for all 4 courses without additional charge. If you wished to select from the a la carte menu, a discount was applied. Fabulous food and a great location by the pool. We also visited the Agrecofarms. All transportation was arranged by the hotel - good value and great entertainment. Exploring the area is easy, a bus into Rethymno was 1.30 and took about 15 mins with the bus stop right outside the hotel. Alternatively a taxi was not expensive. A hotel where you can truly relax, join in with the yoga and aqua aerobics if you wish, visit the lovely spa or simply veg by the pool or on the beach. Thanks we had a great time.

WeddingWe had our wedding at the caramel on the 15th September and I honestly dont think we could of picked a better location. Having not seen the location in person before arriving in Crete I was slightly apprehensive but I honestly had no reason to be. We met with their events team a few days before the wedding who couldnt of done more for us if they had tried. They had thought of absolutely everything and nothing was too much hassle. On the day they had concerns due to the wind level and wanted us to have the best day so suggested another location within the hotel to hold the reception, still allowing us to get married by the beach as we had always wanted. It was perfect. They had loads of staff working who worked solidly throughout the day to ensure that everything run smoothly and that everyone was having a great time. The food was absolutely incredible, we opted for a BBQ buffet and i could not believe how much food they had prepared. They even managed to defeat the 10 or so rugby lads we had attend who were unable to keep up with how much food there was. In a nut shell if you are looking to get married in Crete in a beautiful setting with staff that strive to make your day as perfect as you have planned then look no further. My only regret is that we did not actually stay at this hotel.

A wonderful placeWe visited in October on recommendation of our daughter who had visited with her husband and children. We were not disappointed. It was everything we hoped for, sun, relaxation and good food. We were staying on B&B basis and enjoyed the great breakfast buffet every morning - we were delighted to be given vouchers for 2 evening buffet meals and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening dining experience on the terrace over-looking the pool. We thought the 55 per person excluding wine was a bit steep and as there are literally hundreds of dining options within a few miles we only had the complimentary meals. Drinks from the bar and snacks poolside were a reasonable price and very convenient. There was poolside entertainment some evenings - some of it was outstanding. We had a car for the entire time (to be recommended as there isn't a huge amount apart from the normal touristy shops within walking distance - though there is a bus in to Rethymnon every 30 minutes. In October parking in town was easy and cheap with a public car park by the large harbour. Do explore the old town as the eating options are fantastic - we particularly liked Avli Rustic Restaurant - Greek speciality dishes, beautifully presented and served. Back to the hotel, we particularly liked the food service staff who were all very jolly, and admirably led by Oggi. Reception staff were professional but slightly less communicative. Only point of contention was the room cleaning staff are briefed to turn off the electricty in the room (save the air conditioning I assume) but this resulted in electronic devices not being charged. Final point is that this IS a child friendly hotel with children's activities and baby-sitting and there were a substantial number of (well-behaved) children - not a problem to us but others be surprised by the number around. The hotel is relatively small, only 69 rooms so there are beds and loungers for everyone and the site is spacious and immaculately groomed.

Great placeWe had a lovely time at the Grecotel Caramel. The beach was nice, the pool was excellent, the food was spectacular, and it was easy to get to and from Rethymno. Special thanks to Oggy in the restaurant. The food was indeed spectacular, but it was lifted to yet another level by the superb service of the staff in general and of Oggy in particular.

Great week at the Grecotel Caramel, CreteGreat stay at this clean 5 star Hotel. Excellent staff, non least in the restaurant, all friendly, polite and helpful. Food was some of the best, always fresh, good selection and hot. Rooms bright, spacious, light and airy. Fabulous swimming pool, though could do to be heated.
