We had a different experience than prior reviewsWe went back and reread all the prior Covid stays experiences, which have been five stars, and the reason I decided to write the review is to normalize expectations for the next guest because if someone had done that for us, I believe we would not have been disappointed All the Covid period guest rave about the breakfast, breakfast brought to the room. We received an advanced email specifying no hot breakfast during Covid, so this to me implied a cold breakfast. The more accurate email should have stated no breakfast whatsoever. This area is remote, so not many breakfast options. The sign in the dining area calls out: Fresh hot coffee starting at 7am. I expected a fresh brewed pot of coffee. The first day, the door was still locked at 7:30. I thought the young man just overslept and didnt make the coffee, so when I asked later if there would be fresh coffee the next morning, he said the coffee maker was broken. They had a Keurig machine There were not enough clean glasses or coffee cups. Dining room was locked at 3:30 pm. I called and he opened it. I filled the Keurig water as it was empty. The guest refrigerator is literal; its for you to use if you need it. Most inns when they call out a guest refrigerator have complimentary sodas and water. The warm staff, we didnt experience. We usually stay in Carmel Valley or Carmel and are not familiar with this area. I was expecting the usual inn friendliness where they would recommend insider suggestions. I read it was contactless, but I have been experiencing contactless service and it hasnt meant that no one was ever around. When we arrived at 4pm, I finally called the Inn and he said to just go to the room. When I booked, I clicked on the free whale watching if you stay two nights. When we got to the room, there were no tickets, so called again and he said that they were not offering that special during covid. This information should be better identified on the website We didnt bother calling about this issue, but the sink stop didnt work and we had to keep it open with a plastic utensil. The bathtub experience is luxurious looking at the view, with the window open and there is full privacy. With no shower hose in the tub, it made it more of a challenge on the practical side of washing ones hair in the morning The views, amazing, being near the beach, a dream. We went both nights to watch the sunset. We absolutely loved kayaking in Elkhorn Slough. The last morning, we debated 50/50 if would come again because of the views, beach and slough and then my husband came back to the room without coffee. He said the woman in front of him said the Keurig was broken. I didnt believe it, so went down myself. As I was trying to see if there was any hope for a cup of coffee, the young man went by and I let him know the Keurig machine was broken. He seemed annoyed, but did something to fix it. My husband and I decided that was the final sign about not returning. Look at my other reviews, I am not that type of customer. My intent is that if information had been more accurate about the experience during Covid, we would not have had such high expectations. If our expectations had been normalized, we would not have been so disappointed and please note, we paid $250 a night. I would say that price is high for our experience.

Hidden gem in Moss LandingOur stay at the Captain's Inn was fabulous. It is a hidden gem overlooking the elkhorn slough and the perfect place to stay after spending the day kayaking near sea otters. The room is very comfortable and very well decorated. I highly recommend it !

Perfect 1 night stop overEnroute to SoCal from Seattle we stayed one night in the Sanctuary unit. Very clean and quiet with a great view of the estuary full of birds and otters. Only issue, and a rather big one, is the big window has moisture between the panes and it obscured the view in the afternoon. Once they replace that window it will be a 5 star room.

Beautiful get awayWe went to the Captains Inn for a quick get away. We stayed in the Sanctuary room. This room has sweeping views of the river with crashing surf heard at night while you sleep. The property was seem-less for check-in, located conveniently in town. I'd go again in a heartbeat. Thanks for the great stay and experience!
