    The hotel staff is discriminatory

NO ONE is better than ANY ONE else REGARDLESS of the circumstances. Period. I was in Delaware a few nights ago. Instead of staying at the Staybridge Suites I normally stay at, I am at the Candlewood Suites - simply because I earned more IHG points and I want to maintain my Spire status so.... Upon returning to the hotel tonight after picking up yogurt for breakfast tomorrow, a couple was causing a scene at the check-in desk. There was an issue with the credit card they were using and they were demanding a room any way. The hotel employee, a young black man, stuck to what sounded like a script, patiently and professionally explaining he could not give them a room unless they were able to provide a valid credit card to check-in with. At this point I was around the corner waiting for the elevator where they could not see me. Unlike my usual self, I lingered because it was clear things were escalating. Knowing no one else was in the lobby I had just walked through, I stayed in the elevator bay where I could continue hearing the encounter. I hoped the couple would leave. Because of how things were escalating, the hotel employee asked them to leave. They refused. He asked a few more times before stating he would call the police if they did not leave. During this period it also sounded like the employee tried to contact a manager for assistance, and he did not receive a response. Then the lady called the employee a n*****. By this point things escalated quite a bit and all I could think of was this young kid is going to lose his job because of intolerant white trash. Under the extenuating circumstances, and having NO managerial or corporate support, the hotel employee began yelling at them. At that point, I tried to intervene to calm the hotel employee down because of fear that he would lose his job over something he really should not lose his job for but that is how the system is and we all know it. Literally got between him noting I heard everything, am a witness, and not to do anything but just call the police. During this the couple were both yelling at him shouting obscenities. Then the man punched the hotel employee (I'm still in the middled with my back to the man and facing the hotel employee), swiping my face causing my glasses to go flying. I don't know what happened over the next 30-60 seconds but the couple made their way to their car. The hotel employee (I think) went to get his phone. He asked me to record the couple as I had my phone out. I then made a video of them trying to start their UNPLATED car. My night ended talking to the police who came very shortly after the hotel employee called them. I asked the employee if he could lock the doors early (so only valid hotel guests could enter without being buzzed in, he said he was unable to change the system on his own as it was on a timer. To make it worse, hotel staff began knocking on my door at 11 am asking when I was leaving. Check-out was noon. Then someone called me to see when I was checking out. Possibly had I not had such a horrible night, I would've slept better and been out the door earlier? Had I not been interrupted 3 times between 11 and noon regarding inquiries about when I planned to check out, I would've been early too. When checking out, Eddie, asked how my stay was. I was honest, it was horrible and I will never stay there again. He asked why and I said I do not like to be involved in police matters or in an establishment that sets their staff up to FAIL or become victims of harassment. Eddie than asked why was I bothered and I highlighted I witnessed the encounter the night before. Eddie than said the employee is being "dealt with" by management. Completely perplexed I asked what did he mean? He stated the employee was in the wrong for leaving the desk. I expressed that I witnessed the matter and video doesn't show sound so they do not know what truly happened. I also asked Eddie what would happen if it was a white hotel staff member and he rolled his eyes at me. Wow. I stated its a shame the hotel fails its staff in such a way. Whether he should've left the desk or not is secondary to the EXTENUATING circumstances(not to mention the polarized society we live in) and, if anything should receive a warning fro leaving the desk. I am so disgusted by IHG and the human race, and particularly American society. The rhetoric (on ALL sides of politics) of our elected leaders has created an atmosphere where things are more polarized than ever. Bias-fueled bigotry and racism has no place and NO good can come of it. This is what it creates. Even if addiction is an issue for the couple I encountered tonight, there is deep rooted stuff that has created the grossly racially disparate society we live in and it has become more polarized - undoubtedly incited, at least in part, by the rhetoric of leaders that are suppose to foster UNITY.

    What a nice experience!

I stayed here because I was picking up my sister to help move. My stay was very pleasant. Although being from Florida, it was difficult dealing with the cold and snow. What can I say, I've turned into a sissy when it comes to cold. The room was clean and the kitchen appliances worked well. Eddie checked me into the room. He is a wonderful, kind and pleasant man. They are very blessed to have him! They originally had me on an upper floor after requesting a low floor and Eddie picked up on this and changed it so I could have the bottom floor. The workout room looked great. They have a laundry room that is absolutely free. I have never seen a hotel with free washers/dryers. There is no breakfast like most hotels have but who cares..there's a kitchen in your room. They did offer muffins, trail bars and coffee. The "store" offered food, toiletries and laundry items. The only downside was the fact that there wasn't an area where you could pull you vehicle under to unload/load from inclement weather. Also, the motel next door is very junky with trash all over the place. Got the creeps just walking my dogs around there.

    Good stay...Friendly staff

In town for employer training. First time at an IHG hotel group and at Candlewoods. On arrival, Ms Danni was professional and polite in handling a lot if check ins. 2nd night, Ms Deborah complimented my bowtie. And this morning, Mr. Daji kindly checked me out. I would stay there again.

Convenient to the university and I-95.

This review is for one of seven properties in which we stayed on an eight-day trip through the eastern U.S. and southern Canada. All can be considered two- or three-star accommodations. Our primary criteria in choosing them included customer ratings, distance from highway exits, restaurants within their vicinity, and price. While there are differences in how we would evaluate them, there is none that we would be unwilling to stay in again. Candlewood Inn and Suites is on Delaware 896 with easy access to I-95. The room was clean and well-equipped. Everything worked as expected and the front desk was reasonably informative but a little disinterested. Unlike other properties charging their rates and offering amenities, there was no breakfast. There is a Friendlys restaurant immediately adjacent that has a very good breakfast for $4.99 (before the 15% discount provided for Candlewood guests). Otherwise, the immediate area is almost a food desert. Within about a half mile, there is a virtually hidden TGI Fridays, otherwise, good luck. And at the Fridays, the fun must be over since neither the staff nor the food seemed to reflect the name of the chain.

Nice facility- customer service needs work

Facility nice and clean. We had a King suite which was spacious clean and comfortable. They have some nice services including a fitness center, laundry area, lending locker and grab n go breakfast. A facility of this breadth and quality should have a staff trained to represent it that way. Staff is not rude but they are missing the basics of customer service (i.e. greetings, smiles, expressing genuine concern for customers, etc.). All in all, we would probably stay again and hope that management has addressed the service issues.
