Good location, friendly staff, airport shuttleDawson City is a step back in time and we loved it. Travelled in October so many shops etc were closed but we preferred it that way, as there were few tourists there and the Aurora was visible every night and it snowed! Hotel is in a great position, near the river and close to everything. Our room in the main building was clean and large. The bathroom contained a bath which was nice to relax in. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. When we walked in for our 3 night stay I wasn't sure, as the carpets are so worn but after a day in Dawson understood why. There are no paved roads or pavements and obviously mud etc is brought into the hotel. Breakfast menu gave a good variety and was served hot and well cooked with endless coffee. We ate here once and the food was well cooked but we didn't fancy the menu 3 nights running so ate elsewhere on the other nights. However we did drink in the Sourdough Bar every evening and tried the famous Sourtoe cocktail delivered by "the captain". You have to do it and get your certificate. All in all we enjoyed Dawson City and the Downtown Hotel.

Great option for staying in Dawson CityThis hotel was right in the middle of downtown Dawson City, making it easy to walk to anywhere downtown. Granted I was there in the slow season (April), but the hotel was quiet and clean. Then again, the city itself was quiet and desolate as well, which made it so much more enjoyable and authentic than if it were crowded! The Aurora was bright and stunning, and the frozen Yukon River was a quick walk and made for awesome viewing. The food at the bar was good and the staff was friendly.

Friendly staff, well located hotelWhile the room was small once 2 Queen sized beds, a desk, air/con fan unit, bar fridge, microwave, coffee maker, kettle and 2 chairs were squeezed in, we were very grateful to have all of these amenities. The beds were comfortable although covered with far too many pillows, all of which were so thick they would give you neck strain and headaches. We ended up using the 2 throw cushions as pillows, although it is possible they would have brought us thin pillows had we asked for them. Staff were both nice and efficient. The walls are pretty thin and you can hear what is going on in the street, but we turned the fan on, and the white noise drowned out the other noises and we slept well. There is a restaurant with decent food in the hotel, as well as a good bar which is the home to the famous Sour Toe cocktail.

Very dated and basicThis is an older hotel that has seen better days. Rooms are small, dark and very dated - in fact this is the only hotel room that we have ever had in all our travels that only had a window into a lobby area - no outside light at all! We were on the main floor and could hear every footstep and sound from the rooms above us. The walls are also thin and we could hear the TV in the neighbouring room. Location is right downtown so handy for walking around the town. Over-all, we expected the building to fit with the gold rush decor and image of the town but we did not expect the rooms to be so small, noisy, dark and just old, especially at the rates charged.

Location and historyDowntown Hotel is perfectly situated in the middle of town, though nothing is far. As you arrive, you feel youve stepped back in time. We had a room with two queen beds, and while a bit tight with furniture, it was clean and comfy. Next time, Ill be sure to get a king room though, as theyre much larger and worth the small amount more. The staff were friendly, the bar/restaurant had some entertainment and some of the food was pretty good. Then theres the Sour Toe Cocktail. Heard the stories, watched the ceremony and.... I still dont get it. But hey, its a novelty.
