Valor seguroHotel correcto, moderno y acogedor.

Very nice quiet well run hotel just on the border between France and Belgium. This is the second time we stayed at this very nice, quiet although a bit pricey hotel, near perfect but for the lack of air-conditioning, located exactly on the border of northern France (French Flandres) and Belgium (West Flandres) build at the old location of the former customs office. The friendly and helpful proprietor starts working very early to start breakfast, dressed casually in a T-shirt and comfortable pants, he takes a break afterwards, so when one books a room they want to know when onell arrive, so the reception will be manned, last year reception only opened after 4 pm, hes at the front desk til late when the restaurant closes for the evening. Btw, you need to pay for the whole stay on checking in, a very good breakfast is included, so checking out is fast and easy, must be since the proprietor is also busy doing breakfast. The rooms are large and clean, bathroom too. Good spacious beds and good pillows, very satisfactory. No airco, but the nights were chilly (yes, in July) so the heating was on. Not good if it was a hot summer.... Nighttime access bypassing the reception area directly accessing the stairs is available, for people like us who prefer not to climb the long stair, a second nightime entrace at the back leading to the elevator is available, only opening to specially coded room key cards. One can rent bikes to explore the surrounding countryside. Parking is free in front of the hotel, they have a small paid closed off garage at one end of the hotel. All in all a very nice quiet place to stay. Their restaurant is rather pricey, you need to tell them in advance if you want to have dinner evenings, the menu is rather limited compared to the large restaurant next door serving very tasty affordable meals.

Solid choice for a stopoverWe enjoyed our brief stopover at Hotel Callecanes. It has a stylish interior and is as neat as a pin. It has nice communal areas and a large restaurant area. Dinner was delicious and the breakfast was also. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It was very quiet at night and the room had a shutter which meant it was pitch black at night. The swimming pool was very clean and a pleasant way to pass the time. Excellent all in all, just missed five stars because we didn't like being charged 2.50 euros for a robe to walk down the corridor to the pool - we would have preferred to be charged a bit more for the room and not be nitpicking over a robe rental.

Great family-run hotel with excellent restaurantWe stayed here for a weekend from Friday till Sunday. The hotel is located exactly on the border between Belgium and France and offers a great starting place to visit the neighbouring towns and battlefields. The hotel looks a bit strange from the outside, but has a lot of space on the inside. The room was very nice and exceptionally clean. The room has electric blinds which completely shut the light out. We had a 3 course dinner on the first night and a 5 course dinner on the second night and the food was just excellent, as was the wine. And also the breakfast is extensive and of great quality. The family team is friendly and caring and we recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a good location to explore the area, with a good restaurant to return to for the evening.
