A True Oasis - Secluded, Beautiful Beach, Delicious Food, Friendly Staff

We visited Calabash Cove as a couple in December 2020, choosing to travel to St. Lucia over domestic travel in the U.S. because of St. Lucias strict COVID protocols, and we felt extremely safe here. We received cloth masks at check-in (a relief after we arrived to the heat with only KN95s), had our temperatures checked multiple times a day, and we were asked to use hand sanitizer regularly. With respect to our room, we stayed in Cottage 8 and it was beautiful! Its directly above their short boardwalk and maybe 10 steps to the beach. The outdoor shower was great - well miss listening to the ocean while washing up after a day lounging in the sun. The furnishing in the bedroom of the cottage might lean a bit dated for some people and the light in that room was dim at night, but that didnt really bother us. We didnt spend much time there anyways, besides to watch a show online after dinner (good WiFi). The beach was awesome. As some have noted, its small but that makes it feel very private. All beaches in St. Lucia are open to the public (a great policy), but this one didnt get much outside traffic, likely because of its location. The Calabash property is down an unpaved road that makes for a bit of bumpy end to the airport transfer. Its short though (max. 5 minutes once youve turned off the main road). There were plenty of loungers on the beach, plus 2 sea kayaks and a paddle board for guests to use, and the team would stop by to take drink requests throughout the afternoon. Fortunately for those that enjoy tanning, the beach got sun all afternoon (but there were wood cabanas and umbrellas for those who preferred shade). Water at the beach was warm and calm - perfect for swims. We tried to snorkel but werent able to see anything. Spoke with the staff and learned December isnt the time for snorkeling in the area; July is much better. Apparently Windjammer, a much larger hotel, is just around the corner (you cant see it but we did see a sea kayaker or two come our way from their side). We heard from one of our servers that there were hundreds of guests there that week. Calabash has only ~25 rooms by comparison which made the stay feel very intimate and familial. We were able to get to know the staff a bit (theyre exceptional - shout out to Chanel, Mario, Maggie, and Ezra; the woman at the spa whose name begins with a J and Ive forgotten was equally great) and chat from afar with other guests (something Ive missed over the past 9 months living in NYC). Another example of the vibe - the owner/manager Konrad wrote a very heartfelt Christmas note to guests this year which we found on our bed on arrival. The food was great - noticeably better than Ladera where we stayed at the front end of our trip (and the food at Ladera was good). We stayed for 4 nights and could have easily stayed 4 more without eating the same thing for dinner twice. Aside from the regular menu, the chef puts out a full menu of daily specials which we looked forward to reading on our phones each afternoon (menus available via QR code because of COVID). The Christmas menu was especially delicious! We appreciated the opportunity to try flavors wed never heard of - ylang ylang, for example. Overall, we cant say enough good things about this spot. Confident we will be back! A few notes: St. Lucias COVID protocols: We did the Everlywell at home RT-PCR tests 5 days before travel, which worked well. On arrival in St. Lucia, all guests were sent straight to a medical tent to have results reviewed, temperature checked, etc. As far as we could tell, anyone arriving without the appropriate papers was swabbed. It was a very well managed process. Plugs: We brought power adapters but didnt use them much since there was a U.S. outlet in the room. (The outlet by the bed did require an adapter though, which we used for a laptop.) Tipping: Bring lots of USD or ECD bills (either works). We took out Eastern Caribbean dollars at the UVF airport which proved to be very helpful - unfortunately we didnt take out enough for our 7 day stay on the island so we had to do a cash advance, which involved a 10% service charge across the island. Also, at Calabash Cove, you dont have the opportunity to tip on drink/meal bills even if youre not on the all-inclusive plan (e.g. at dinner), so cash is the only way to show your appreciation. Tap Water: Totally safe to drink so we brought our water bottles and refilled them regularly from the sink. Otherwise youll wind up going through many plastic bottles.

    Escape From USA

This resort is very private and beautiful. The cottage (#5) has an outstanding view, is steps from the beach, and has a private pool. All I f the staff were nice, friendly and very attentive to your every need. We had the all inclusive because of COVID restrictions and the food was excellent at every meal. The 90+ steps up from the cottage to the dining room made me ok with ordering deserts every night. (They will also do room service if you dont want to make the trek). We will definitely be back.

    Laid back vibe, GREAT sunsets!

WE really liked the Calabash Cove. Rohan was awesome throughout our reservation process. Our room, Sunset suite, was nice and looked directly at the sunset. Only wrinkle was not much closet space as well as drawers. They offered to upgrade us to a cottage but still not much closet space again...For someone like me, that was difficult. Food was very good and the servers were wonderful. The beach was very calm and sandy. They did not' have floaters at the time , so not know why. They did have paddle boards n kayaks. Plenty of chairs for sun or no sun. It would be nice to have a tiki hut with towels, cold water and possible a way to order a drink or two as well as some food, could be a limited menu but something. Lots of steps, great exercise for me, my husband struggled a bit. So beware. Great service at the swim up bar. We did not do the AL, that was OK with us. All in all just like the title, Laid back vibe, enjoy!

    A perfect jewel

Everything about our stay at Calabash was perfect. Travelling during full Covid alert was a little worrying but we were just desperate for some sun and fun. All of the precautions from mask wearing, temperature taking and sanitising put us completely at ease Best things about Calabash? Its small. Intimate. The staff are absolutely amazing! We have travelled a lot and the staff at Calabash are far and away the best. We stayed in an Oceanside bungalow which was large and very well equipped. Air conditioning was fierce in the bedroom and perfect. Bathroom open air and a great experience. The room was well stocked and included. Mini bar excellent and replenished each day. Have to say we hit the rum which was excellent. The menu on all inclusive can be a bit samey but daily specials livened things up with regular lobster specials. Everything we ate was great. Would recommend the St Lucian breakfast. Cocktails were great. Cant wait to return.
