  B&B in part of residential housing block

  Hotel Burgerhaus is a small section of a big residential block in Steinbach entered through a separate door. It's more a backpackers hostel than a hotel. The Chinese owner lives on the next level where there is a small breakfast room. The room was small and minimally furnished, although clean. En-suite bathroom was old and tired. It was tiny with a shower cubicle, toilet and washbasin and was not very clean. The toilet was directly in front of the shower door making access extremely difficult. Bizzarely, there were water meters and stop valves sticking out of the wall above the washbasin. The room was hot with no way of controlling the temperature other than opening the outside door. The bed seemed to have a cheap foam matress and was extremely hard and very uncomfortable. Pillow even more uncomfortable. I didn't sleep at all. Breakfast was minimal but OK quality. I had reserved for 3 nights but left after just one. On departure I discovered that I had already been charged for 3 nights on the basis of restrictive cancellation policy and there would be no refund. An expensive mistake as this "hotel" was charging 100/night during the Frankfurt Music Festival week. Avoid if you're a business traveller.

  Worst hotel I have stayed in.

  Small, smelly, cockroach infested rooms. The shower was broken when I arrived. Very noisy. Each day they'd turn off the heating, so when I returned to the room it was cold as on the outside. The owner or what ever he was does not know English. It took me 15 min to explain that I needed a taxi. Also staff was very rude. Every time I went to the improvised reception they greeted me with a "What?". Some times they didn't even bother to go down the stair just their feet showed up. Do not use this hotel unless it is a matter of life and death. There are 3 and 4 star hotels near by for the same price as this hell hole.
