A Surprising Delight Sheltering from a storm in Colby, KSA summer storm pushed us to sell shelter. The nearest motel? Colby, KS. The host was wonderful and understanding, even offering some pain reliever and a drink for my daughter. The rooms were very clean and neat, and were well maintained despite being a throwback from a decor perspective. As an outdoor/exterior room entrance motel with a filled in swimming pool for a courtyard, it was still quaint, and would have made for a nice picnic without the gusting thunderstorms rolling over us. The electronics for TV and internet were up to date without diminishing the historical feel of the place. I commented more than once that it would be an ideal movie setting for a sixties or seventies period piece. We enjoyed our brief stay, and the exceptional value.

Great place for an overnight stayMy husband and I stopped in Colby for an overnight stay on our way to Dodge City. We wanted to stay somewhere clean but inexpensive. We normally stay in a chain but after reading the other reviews we decided to try it. It was late and we needed a place just to sleep. It was a clean, comfortable room. The bed linens were clean and looked new. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The towels were nice and smelled great. The ladies at check in were very nice, and about 30 minutes after check in, they called our room to make sure everything was satisfactory and to see if we needed anything. They were very apologetic for not having breakfast due to COVID. The room must have been soundproof because when we woke up the next morning, we saw where thunderstorms had come through overnight, but we never heard anything. The hotel is older, but extremely clean inside and outside. The parking lot had no trash, and there were picnic tables and grills in the courtyard. If you want a place to stay with a pool for the kids, this isnt the place, but if you want a nice, clean room, its the best deal in town. If we ever come through this town again, we will definitely stay here.

Very quiet, cleanOverall, a reasonable value for stopping for the night. As others have stated, the proprietor did require us to give them our credit card although we had booked it on Booking.com; we called Booking.com who verified the proprietor had this right, so far I just see one charge for the hotel. Room was clean; did have a slight chemical smell presumably from cleaning; we got one of the non-smoking and hypoallergenic rooms and signed a statement stating we did not smoke or have pets, which is true. Bed was comfortable The curtains appear to be effective at blacking out sunlight; I had no idea the sun had risen when our alarm went off. There was some kind of pump on a pickup bed operating noisily in the parking lot, I was afraid it would be annoying, but I didn't hear it in the room. The bathroom is tiny but clean. Parts of the room were shabby; a shelf below the TV needed paint, the heating register in the bathroom was rusting. The toilet tank ran after flushing; the handle needed to be manipulated to stop it; There is some kind of plastic container in the tank that was tipped and wasn't filling up, maybe a water saving device. In this case it sadly wasted water. Breakfast was sparse. I saw cold cereal available. Some yogurt available. Coffee weak and no cream; just powdered creamer. Check in clerk was not masked; there is a plastic divider between customer and desk. $53 for a king bed was reasonable I thought. I would probably stay here again. In short, clean, bed comfortable, quiet, safe, a little shabby.

Great customer serviceWe really enjoyed our stay. I could not figure out how to turn the ac down so I called the front desk and the owner came right away and helped me. The owners are wonderful, kind and always smiling. The room was comfortable and we will definitely stay again if we ever come through Colby again.

FALSE Advertising!!Despite the write up saying it was completely renovated in 2012, this place has not been changed since the 1940s-50s, at best. (See pics!) Continental breakfast with waffles, pastries, cereal, milk, juice and coffee 6:30-9:30 is also a lie. My husband went looking for breakfast after 7:00 and found a locked fridge with orange juice behind glass, and an empty coffee pot. Nobody at the front desk. We were traveling with family, and arranged for 3 rooms, as we were driving. When we arrived, 1 of the 3 rooms (108) had a heating unit that was broken and blowing only cold air. It was 25 degrees outside when we arrived, with a few inches of snow on the ground, and the weather prediction called for 17 degrees overnight. Do NOT, at any cost, stay here in cold weather. We actually had ice in our toilet when we checked in. The heating units are up by the ceiling, so since warm air rises, it takes a loooong time to heat the room. The struggle to stay warm lasted all night. When we woke up, our bottled water that had sat on the floor all night was still ice cold. We piled our coats on top of ourselves in the beds. My chronically-ill 18 year old daughter was crying and asking to leave at 1:00 am. We ended up with the rest of us sacrificing some covers. She finally got some sleep after we piled 2 coats, all 3 towels from the bathroom, and her sisters half of the thin bedspread on her. In searching the room for extra blankets, I opened the dresser drawers and found dirty mens underwear and socks and half a tube of toothpaste. My mom found mold in the microwave in her room. Toilet seats did not fit toilets in 2 of our 3 rooms. Bathroom I would place in the 1940s, and while Ive seen some places make use of their age and go for a cute vintage feel, it has not happened here. Overall effect at the Budget Inn and Suites is dilapidation and neglect. Rust, mold, dead bugs, broken tile, and sloppy drywall repairs all contribute to this impression. Formica table and two chairs are castoffs from a 1980s all-you-can-eat buffet. My dad went to try to get some heat in their room, and was handed a little space heater and 2 rolls of toilet paper. WTH?? Also awesome and deserving mention is the single fluorescent bulb fixture that is shared between the bathroom and bedroom, that goes through a square hole above the bathroom door. Makes it impossible to select which room to light. If you use the bathroom, the light will wake everyone in the bedroom. AVOID!!!!!
