    Could be a boutique hotel

Reason for travel. Came from Walsall, West Midlands to drop my son at university in Liverpool. I'd purchased a red letter day voucher for a 2 night hotel break and found this hotel to use them at. So a relaxing 2 nights before we continue journey home The phone call to book was with a very helpful lady. She asked me if I minded that voucher was for b&b but due to the pandemic they're restaurant remained closed. I didn't mind. Arrived around 3pm to check in. As soon as got through front door there's a dresser in entrance with hand gel and a sign requesting it to be used. That's what I did everytime I entered the building. Lady on reception was very polite, helpful and imagine my pleasant suprise that even though the restaurant is shut a full breakfast can be delivered to our room at an allotted time slot. Bonus, room service! She then proceeded to show us down a warren of narrow corridors. I'd requested an accessible room. Room was as needed. I don't use a wheelchair chair but the bathroom was just about accessible to a chair user. The shower had a tiny lip/ramp. Ideal for me and a chair user. The bathroom sink was a little low, but perfect if wheelchair user, used it. So was as expected. The furniture in the room felt dated, but not antique. All a bit tatty tbh. Huge TV on the wall. That pleased my partner lol. But I couldn't cope with the fact it wasn't straight. Yes it's a minor fix, so fix it. Should take minutes. Also the bulb in the light by the entrance door didn't work. Makes using wardrobe tricky. Another minor fault, so fix it. First evening we popped out fetched a takeaway. When we arrived back a gentlemen asked if he could help me. I politely refused. He said, can I just get you plates and cutlery. He did and he was really polite, welcoming and willing to help. He said we could eat in the bar. I refused as didn't want to offend other patrons in the bar area. When we got back, took about 12 attempts to get key to register to in room. Nights sleep was ok, firm mattress. I did however hear plenty from 7am. First I think I heard staff arrive, then someone close using bathroom... Breakfast arrived about 2 mins early. That's perfect to me. Breaky was lovely, sausage, bacon, egg, beans, tinned toms, hash brown and tasty black pudding. Plenty of toast for the 2 of us. Started to get ready to leave for the day. House keeping knocked asked them to pop back. When we left the room I saw house keeping and speed, rooms empty now. She shouted ok thanks. On our return I used hand gel at door. As I walked to room through bar area an elderly woman asked, very surly, if I was ok. I flashed my room key and said just going back to my room. She took a 2nd look at me. Then said I need to issue you with new room keys... Ok I thought yesterday we had trouble with them. I headed back to reception. She headed out of sight. Then just started shouting at me requests for breakfast. How you want your eggs? Do you want black pudding etc. Not once did she ask my room number. But I guess other staff had told her which room we was in and described me. I'm black with long dread locs, or just locs as I like to say. Well anyway back to the surly rude old woman. She finally showed herself. Told me to put the key cards down on the counter and use the hand gel. I had already used hand gel near the front door. But you know what I didn't want to rock any boats, I'm hoping for another nice breakfast tomorrow morning . Went back to room. Housekeeping hadn't been in. No clean towels, no tea/coffee replenished but worst of all rubbish from takeout not removed. But breakfast plates removed, so someone came in but didn't think to empty the bin or tell housekeeping to go sort our room. Apart from rude old lady on our first return. Didn't see another member of staff. Seems with a good clean, fixing what needs fixing. (Door nob on fire door came off in my hand, no one around so I just stuck it back in and tried until I got it open) this could be a hidden gem. 2 * the elderly lady needs customer service training, scrap that she needs to be taught to be polite minus 1*. Deep clean, cobwebs in room I know nature exists but cobwebs with dust have been there a while. Skirting boards filthy, just a bit of water on a serviette got some filth off minus 1*. Fix the broken stuff minus 1* Would I recommend? Not yet. After refurb and deep clean, possibly. Older woman no longer customer facing, yes. I'd recommend then and even return myself.

Jacuzzi Bath & spacious room (room 201)

stayed at the Brook Hall Hotel last night with my partner. When we both walked in to the room we commented on how fresh it smelled and how clean it was. The room was very spacious and we had a Juliet balcony that opened on to views of the gardens. The bathroom was lovely, his and her sinks as well as a jacuzzi bath to fit 2. This was a really nice touch and lovely for us both to unwind and relax with a glass of fizz. Less important to me but very important to the other half we had a very big flatscreen tv, must have been over 55 inches. We had breakfast delivered to the room inclusive in the price. We chose to have the full English Breakfast but we're offered cereals and yogurts also. We will definitely recommend to friends and family and will stay again ourselves.

    Not Good

After agreeing an early morning arrival when booking we were met by bewilderment by the staff that had no idea of what had been arranged. Eventually rooms sorted, however the first room we where given had no electric. While they sorted our alternative room we went for breakfast which was very nice. After breakfast transfered to our new room. Then went out, upon our return the door entry card would not work. This was a continuous issue and after talking to other guest this appeared to be a problem across the board. Went out again and returned about 11.30 pm to find front door locked and no response to our knocking. Eventually found an open door on the conservatory which allowed us to gain entry. Despite at the time there being tier 2 Covid restrictions in place there was a party in progress in one of the functions rooms with at least a dozen people in attendance. In the morning went to take a shower to find there was no hot water. Decided we would go for breakfast then return to room to collect belongings but decided to check that the key card worked first which it did not. So removed belongings from room packed car then went for breakfast, again no complaints food was very good. Staff where friendly but difficult to find when there was an issue and as they key cards continually failed to work this was frequent. We would not stay here again.

    Really poor

The hotel is currently only open to people traveling for essential purposes. We had to travel during lockdown restrictions as my mother was ill. My partner phoned the hotel to book the day before we arrived and explained our situation to them. When we arrived the hotel was completely locked up with no lights on, it looked like there was no one there. We phoned reception and the staff seemed surprised we were there, despite having taken our booking the day before. The whole hotel is tired and needs a makeover. The room we were given was cold and took a long time to heat with the small radiator provided. Despite the booking being made for two people there was only one towel provided. My partner had a hot shower in the evening however there was no hot water for me to have a shower in the morning. There were facilities to make hot drinks but no teaspoons provided. We had dinner the night we arrived and the food was decent. We had arranged for breakfast to be delivered at 7am on the morning of our departure as we had to leave early. We waited 30mins and the breakfast didnt arrive. There were no staff about to speak with and we left without seeing anyone. We paid an additional £10 each for the breakfast and have contacted the hotel for a refund but havent had a response. We were told we were the only people staying in the hotel however late into the evening a group of young men met up in one of the function rooms and consumed a large amount of alcohol. Despite covid restrictions. The hotel is pretty reasonably priced- we weren't expecting anything luxurious but they weren't able to provide the very basics like hot water and a towel. I wouldn't stay here again.
