Good base locationMy partner & I stayed here 12-16th October with our spaniel. First time in the lake District, we absolutely loved it. Got to admit I was a bit apprehensive about this place after reading the reviews but at the end of the day we are only really there to sleep, shower & eat! The rest of the day we are out so as long as there was a bed & shower we were going to be happy! We arrived Monday late afternoon, reception was easy, a few pieces of information given to us regarding local supermarkets, places of interest etc which were helpful. The setting of the lodges is really lovely, almost feels like you're in the forests of Austria or somewhere like that! Yes the lodges are a little tired looking but nothing drastic, rustic effect! We were really surprised that we had a hot tub with ours as well (was booked through an RCI holiday timeshare) so that was a big added bonus. Lodge itself was plenty big enough for the 3 of us, really nice open plan kitchen/dining room/lounge.. Nice big kitchen table, plenty big enough kitchen, nice cosy seating area with a huge TV! Leading from there into two bedrooms, one double bed, again with a decent sized TV in both bedrooms, and then another bedroom with 2 single beds, also a bathroom with shower over the bath & a sauna room inside the bathroom! I have to admit the double bed was enormous! It was so comfy though, Plus points *Hot tub - some reviews say theirs wasn't hot but ours was perfect. *dishwasher - not that we used it but I'm sure it would be helpful if more people were staying *Mattress protectors, a BIG plus point! *All linen & towels provided & all very clean *Really trivial thing but I loved the little wall lamps in the bedrooms, was perfect lighting for that "chill out before bedtime" hour!! *Milk, bottle of water & washing up liquid provided which was brilliant. *Could park right outside of our lodge "Not so plus" points! *Could have done with a few dishwasher tablets... Again this really didn't effect us as we didn't use it but if we had, it would have been a pain to have bought a big box for the use of just a few, just maybe something for the company to consider. *There was absolutely no instructions left anywhere about how to work the appliances like the coffee maker, hot tub, TV, sauna etc, a little house book or something would have been useful. *The pressure of the water in the shower was really low. Was weird though, the kitchen hot water was the same but the sink water was absolutely fine?! Was just a little disappointing coming back from a long day wanting a nice hot shower, only for the pressure to be so low. *There isn't a lot of storage space in the kitchen, didn't effect us massively as we had some big shopping bags we kept stuff in but if we'd have been there longer, some cupboards for the food would have been handy. *The lightbulbs all around the lodge could do with being checked as we noticed there was one outside light out & also 2 of the spotlights in the lounge were out. None of the above are complaints, just things that the management could maybe invest in doing.... Particularly the shower, it seems a shame as it's really only that which lets it down. So much exploring to do, we climbed scaffel pike, went all around Whitehaven & St Bees which is beautiful. The beach at Haverigg is stunning, Fell Foot national trust park is beautiful, great to cycle or walk, really pretty waterfall in there as well. We drove all around lake Windermere, stopping off at random points, worth doing, beautiful scenery & some enormous new houses being built which is just fun to see! We also (accidently) ended up driving the Hardknott Pass which was....ummm.... Interesting!!! But really good fun, not for the faint hearted drivers! Myself & my partner both work for the ambulance & fire service so are both used to driving big vehicles, fast, down narrow lanes, through places we never thought we could fit.... And this was a real "oh my god" moment! Check your brakes & handbrake before you go up, would NOT recommend if you were in a campervan...we were in his transit van & it was quite hairy! But, amazing views at the top. On our drive back to Somerset we stopped of in Morecambe which was lovely. All in all an absolutely brilliant stay & it's the perfect location for a base. Hope this review is helpful.

Wonderful landscapes, awful lodge and cold tub0We (me, spouse, 2 children) arrived at 4PM and it's nearly 10PM and the hot tub is cold. Except for the bed sheets and pillows everything else is dirty (stained carpets, chairs and dining table, black dirty kitchen towels, almost falling off drapery in the kitchen, dirty windows, not familty friendly lodge - lots of corners that children can hurt should they play, oven smells like garbage combined with an old unburied corpse in decay). No lights outside - hot tub and the list can go on... All facilities are awful degraded and outdated. We paid £605 + £100 guarantee at the resort for 3 nights and you would expect only the best, however, this is not the current case. Personnel is kind and polite, they are looking to sort things out, but I am of the opinion that serious investment is required to save this place. The location is amazing with beautiful landscapes, but you can't enjoy due to the dirtyness and degraded status of the hot tub and interiors. Wife crying and all that...she got a rash on her hand from something inside the lodge. We leave tomorrow and we took that decision only after a few hours... Will never come back at this location and Hoseasons that we used to reserve the location seriosly overcharged, this is not the promissed location, this is not a luxurious lodge, we are deeply sorry we had to go through this and we spend £705 for 3 nights here in order to relax and this has been an awful experience. Totally dissapointed... It's Friday night, my son hit his head 4 times while playing in the living room due to the amount of wooden corners on every piece of furniture altough we put pillows and tried to make safer the area, it was not enough. Slippery deck outside too nearly did the rope earlier this evening, cold tub, angry wife, hurt children...

Honest reviewWe visited her with our dogs (me husband and son) The lodge itself was nice and had everything we needed and the milk and water was a lovely touch. The scenery surrounding the area is lovely and very quiet however... The whole time we were there the Gardner's were out using electric leaf blowers and lawnmowers all day every day... I honestly understand that this kind of work needs to be done to maintain the beautiful gardens but it honestly went on all day. This was not ideal for relaxing in the hot tub and being able to enjoy the scenery in peace and quiet. The hot tub was a bit or a miss re: temperature... It was far too hot when we arrived but a phonecall to reception and someone came and turned it down... However it was then too cold so we never really got the temperature correct. Staff were helpful and friendly which was nice. Hot tub was being checked at 2pm ... This was not ideal if you were enjoying a soak in it it would have been better of this had been done earlier in the day to avoid having to stop using it. Anywhere I have been before the tubs are checked much earlier in the day. No water at all on the Friday and was advised by reception that this was due to tubs being emptied and cleaned.... Again not a major issue but a heads up would have been nice as there was also no water for the toilet. Lovely beach about a 40 minute drive. But well worth going. We had a nice break and are booked again for February however given the issues we had ... Are trying to move our booking. It is a lovely place but I do think rather overpriced. Still had a nice stay

Better out than inClearing out phone pictures prompted this review. The Hall is well situated to explore a less well travelled part of the Lakes. We had some really good trips out during our stay. Staff we met were pleasant. Lodge was well equipped but tired. We too suffered from no external light down the side of the property and a cool and in my opinion very poorly presented hot tub. If was the photos of the hot tub that triggered this review. To the staffs credit they fixed the light and cleaned the hot tub. Stated that new covers were on order and had been delayed by virus. Pricey for standard lodge offered but worth it for the scenery.

Way overpriced and very dirtyWe always book with Hoseasons for our uk breaks because I know what we are going to get , except on this occasion. At over £600 for 3 nights I expected luxury. What we got was very disappointing. Dirty lodge , now considering you cant check in until 5pm and have to be out at the ungodly hour of 9am for extra cleaning I cant see what cleaning had been done . A measly amount of Aldi coffee pods left for the machine . Dust and cob webs everywhere, lampshades and plug sockets just full of dust . Couldnt see out of the windows as they were so filthy . My son was playing pushing toy cars about and when he stood up his trousers were covered in dog hair . To be fair staff did sort that out and were fabulous. About 8am on day of departure a man just let himself in around the back to empty the hot tub , which I think is incredibly rude and would have been courteous to knock first . Great location fab staff , probably would go back if it was a lot cheaper but as I say for the price I expect a lot more .
