Just book somewhere else....Where do I start with this place? Ok, let's start with the positives. Pleasant staff throughout the hotel and the room I was given was a good size.... I'm afraid that's about it. The room was relatively clean, the bathroom not so much. I'm not sure what the mattress and pillows were made of but they had as much give in them as a Scot during the great depression. The 80's styled room (either that or it was last refitted in the '80s) was very cold, because the windows were open when I arrived. No problem I thought, I'll just turn the radiators on... the radiators didn't work and I was told they only come on at certain times; which is frankly bizarre. But, there were 2 electric heaters in the room, so I put both of these on to get some warmth and you had to have both of these on to get any warmth in the room. This then caused another issue.... because there were only 2 electric points in the room.... so, I could either choose to be very cold and watch TV or use my PC to work.... or be warm and not be able to use any other electronic devices at all?!?!?! The accommodation is advertised as having 'free wi-fi', so I rang down to ask how I access it, only to be told I only get 20mins free in-room wi-fi per day! I would have to pay if I wanted more.... laughable, just laughable. I needed to iron a shirt for my meeting in the morning, so I got the iron out, but unfortunately the plate was black with gunge, no problem though, there was another iron in the room, unfortunately this one also had a plate black with gunge.... nice touch.... OK, let's at least be clean for the meeting, I'll have a shower. Jumped in the shower, went to use the filthy dirty soap dispenser which is attached to the wall, but it was empty.... great, so now I am in the shower with no way of washing, so I needed to use the 'postage stamp' sized towel to dry myself to get out and get the bar of soap from the sink. Once done, I have to try and dry myself with a wet towel; which wouldn't cover a midget. The only real option was to try and get some sleep, the later it got, the colder it got, so I took the blanket out of the wardrobe to use (something I have never had to do in over 30 years of travel). The radiators never came on and I was woken up at about 01:30 because it was so cold and from then on the cold kept waking me up and I got very little sleep. Whilst there I used both the gym and the restaurant.... and trying to find them or getting directions from the staff was like taking part in 'The Crystal Maze', except in this case, success gave little to no reward. The restaurant food was at best bland and the gym whilst functional was full of aged, tired equipment, again looking like it was from the '80's. I was meant to stay here for two nights, but had to check out after one, the pkace was so bad. Check out was interesting, I told the staff about the problems with the room and it seemed to be my fault that I was cold. Apparently, I should have got up at 01:30, contacted the night staff, then got dressed and waited for them to come to my room to look at the problem, they could have then moved me to another room.... really? That is your reaction? She then went on to say,"for future reference, we have night staff operating that you can contact when you have issues" Future reference? That would imply you thought there was a chance that I might return! LOL! A bizarre place, with bizarre customer service. Would I dream of staying here again? No, not in a million years. Would I recommend you to stay here? No, not in a million years, not unless you want a trip back in time to a place where hardship was fun.... if it ever was. My personal advice is don't make the same mistake I made, save yourself the trouble and just book somewhere else.... anywhere else.

Fantastic staffHaving stayed here about 10 years previously when visiting family, decided to return as it is so convenient for visiting Chester and the surrounding area. The hotel hadn't changed much and unfortunately we were advised on arrival that the pool was closed for urgent maintenance. We did have issues with our room initially and some areas of the hotel were in need of decorating. However, the staff absutely made up for any of this. Two people in particular stood out as exemplary employees--Ailsa (night manager but often available during the day too) and Abby on reception. They dealt with any issues we had immediately in a professional and friendly manner. All other members of staff we came across were friendly and helpful from bar staff to housekeeping.

Worst hotel everOverall this is the worst hotel I and my family have stayed at. I emailed them twice to complain and nothing back. The receptionist was pleasant but thats where it ended. We had the best type of room you can have but was still horrendous so not sure what the basic rooms were like There was sockets coming off the wall, stains on the chairs and sofa The phone didnt work, and in every corridor we walked in stank of weed. We were there due to our children running in a tournament in Liverpool. Luckily we stayed in the hotel, as would never let my child stay there otherwise. The food was horrendous and was a very limited menu, the bar food you could order burgers but if you went in the restaurant you had to have What was on the hot plates, which were not hot. This hotel needs to be inspected as not up to the standard it should be
