As bad as it getsI stayed at the Magdalena on the 1st to 2nd September and the only good points were 1. The evening meal and the breakfast were reasonable AND 2. The hotel receptionist was very pleasant and polite. That however, is where the good points come to an end. Our rooms were in need of some updating. The reception area had furniture which had obviously seen better days and seemed faded from the sun. Our experience in the bar was a joke. The barmaid was obliging enough and allowed us to play some background music but that came to an abrupt end when another member of staff stormed in at 8.50pm and promptly pulled the plug on the music. Further to this another member of staff entered the bar at 9.20 pm and told us all that the bar was shut and that we must get out. To make matters worse it was obvious that other users of the hotel ( probably contractors ) were allowed to have drinks brought to them in the reception area . I can only speculate as to why WE ( All from the UK ) were treated in this way ! As for ever going back ---NO THANK YOU.

Great breakfast but otherwise NQR.This is a quirky hotel with novelty features like a pool table in reception, otherwise you could describe it as a bit run down. The amateur make over can't hide the fact that there has been no major renovation for 50 years. That said the rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. Based on Trip adviser comments I choose not to have dinner in the hotel however the breakfast selection was exceptional with rare and special cheeses plus other fresh local produce. The staff are friendly however they don't trust the guests and have adopted a lock down siege mentality (either due the locality or former problem guests). In general this hotel is NQR and I would probably try somewhere else when I am next in town.

The worst hotel everLooking through the photos of this hotel wouldn't show any concern. However, i found it hard to recognise, particularly the bedrooms. Dire. We arrived to find only three cars parked, this remained that way, a sign. The bedroom was outdated, uncoordinating, umcomfortable and unpleasant. THREE STAR??? More like MINUS THREE STAR! The room was very hot as there was no airconditioning which meant we had hardly any sleep. However, the worst was yet to come. Breakfast. Eight euros fifty was a rip off. Definately not a breakfast for someone who doesn't like cheese. Although, we had a nice view of the CCTV! Everything was closed up after 8pm including the bar and the staff seemed rather unwelcoming. Overall, our experience was very disappointing and it has made me realise that 'if it sounds to good to be true (the price) it probably is'.

A Great Find.I stayed here for three nights and the hotel met all my needs. I wanted a good, middle-of-the range hotel. Yes, my room's decor was dated but it was spacious, very clean with a large, comfortable bed and large bathroom. The free on-site car park was a huge plus for me as I simply left my car parked there for the duration of my stay and walked into Nevers each day thus avoiding traffic, parking fees and often hard-to-find- parking. The couple who managed the hotel were very genial and I felt welcome. The buffet breakfast was wonderful, with a large range to choose from including eggs, cold meats, cheeses, home-made jams, all sorts of breads, cereals etc. The dinner was a real surprise- buffet entree with a large choice (this included prawns, pate, several salads, local cheeses) a choice of two main plates that differed each night and were served to your table, then a buffet dessert selection which was as delicious as it was extensive. There were many guests and the overall atmosphere was relaxed, friendly and homely.

DreadfulDated, run down tired, shabby decor. Double bed was way too small and pillows were too flat. Breakfast was not good and not worth the money. Not good value for money and I would not book this hotel again.
