  EVERYONE IN FUMEL IS HERE AT LUNCHTIME.

  We arrived in Fumel on bikes via the old railway line from Puy l'Eveque. From the site of Fumel station it was quite a push to the town. When we got there the place was closed up and deserted - not unusual at midday in France! Searching for a restaurant we chanced on the Brit Hotel. It looked deserted from outside, but inside it was heaving. The buffet hors d'ouvres followed by baked perch and then by the buffet desserts was excellent - and at 18 was very good value. (There were other choices and other menus starting from 15.) The view from the terrace is superb - and not totally unrelated to the climb into town! However, the day we visited it was cool and showery. So everyone was eating indoors - we just had coffee by the infinity pool with the view. A good find and a great place to eat with the locals!

  Restaurant review.

  We came here when our usual restaurant closed. It did not look inspiring from the outside but the dining room was pleasant with views over terrace/pool to surrounding countryside. They have a buffet lunch with various options. Salad buffet gave plenty of choice, the main course of fish was excellent and followed by a sweet buffet. Service was a little slow but they were busy, no problem. Good food and value.

  Brilliant buffet at the Brit.

  We make a pilgrimage here everytime we are in the area for the lunchtime buffet. The place is underwhelming from the outside but once in the dining room with that wonderful view over the infinity pool to the Lot Valey you are in a different world. The family who run it seem very friendly and the waitresses are always helpul. The salad buffet is one of the best and offers many tasty treats, eat as much as you like. The main course part of the menu is always well cooked, a choice of three usually. Didn't have room for desserts on this occasion. Terrific value. Go and find it.

  Excellent buffet

  We were looking for lunch in Fumel and came across this place by chance. We knew it would be good when we saw how busy it was. The three course menu included an excellent cold buffet for the first course and a sweets buffet for dessert. There were three or four main courses to choose from. The trout was delicious, the duck cooked to perfection and the steak cooked as requested. The restaurant was noisy as it was so busy, but the staff were very efficient. Theres a great view over the pool and the Lot valley.

  Best hotel lunch ever

  Stopped in Fumel for lunch on our drive through the Lot Valley. It is a very simple place with a simple dining room. Dont let that fool you. The best duck confit Ive ever had. Also the potato cauliflower gratin was amazing. Looking forward to the tart Tatin.
