    Great Hotel and resturant

This is a great hotel, in a great location. The hotel is clean and well kept, and service was great. The restaurant was also fantastic and the beer was incredible. We were here on valentines day so the restaurant was really busy so we had to wait for a table, and parking was difficult in the small carpark.

    Great hotel and good restaurant

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a spacious room over the road from the main hotel. Our balcony overlooked the old city wall and was quiet, modern and comfortable with tea and coffee facilities. Breakfast, in the main hotel was varied with a good choice of hot and cold food, meats, cheeses, breads, eggs etc. Staff were very slow to top up empty or nearly empty bowls, plates etc which caused some problems and in fact, there didn't seem to be any staff around at breakfast time. We had dinner in the hotel once and it was delicious and service was good.

Cool hotel with great traditional food and fantastic beer

At the end of March we played a concert in the delightful and architecturally fascinating town of Mühlhausen in Thüringia. It's a bit off the beaten track, as the area is hilly and there are no major roads. We arrived at our accommodation in the Hotel Brauhaus zum Löwen around 2pm in time for a late lunch. The house brewery adjoins the attractive dining area, a sort of roofed courtyard, and the copper brewing kettles give it a great atmosphere. Most pleasantly, it didn't smell like a brewery. The food could probably best be described as modern Thuringian, which is to say traditional German fare but of uniformly high quality, well prepared and attractively presented. Prices are extremely reasonable and the staff was friendly and helpful. In addition to the usual meat-based cuisine, a range of vegetarian options is available. They sell several different kinds of thoroughly excellent beer brewed on the premises, the two main varieties are dark and light (dunkel & hell). The rooms were modern, large, well appointed and comfortable. The hotel is situated right in the middle of town, but has its own parking. A great place for a night or a weekend stay in a beautiful and picturesque town in one of Germany's nicest regions. The gig was sold out too :-)

    OK but not Great.....

Mühlhausen is a nice place and the Brauhaus is conveniently central and our group of 10 did have a nice stay in the town, however, we won't return to this hotel. On the face of it all looks good but little niggles added up to overall disappointment. The rooms in the brew house are basic, lighting is poor and some are very much smaller than others. No fridge or fan provided. Our bathroom was very tight and lacking any sort of space to place toiletries. There was a free to use safe in the wardrobe. The 'surprise gift' used to encourage guests to forgo clean towels and room servicing was a 1 bar of chocolate, out of date too! Small bottles of mineral water were provided in the room but charged extra @ 1.50 each. Meals in the house were very 'commercial', looked and sounded good in the menu but were disappointingly bland and lacking flair.....we wouldn't have minded if they were a more reasonable price. Beer was nice, the best being the Hefeweizen. Breakfast was as you would expect in a German hotel but the staff were slow to refill the plates and on the second morning there was no milk available. Poor. Overall the impression was the hotel was cutting corners and trying to maximize cost from guests. They even charged parking for each motorcycle in our group despite us fitting 4 bikes in one bay. Judging by previous reviews we expected better, either we hit the place on a bad couple of days else it's slipping downhill.

"La Villa" rooms modern, clean & quiet

We were originally booked in the Brauhaus rooms. On being told that there was no lift and looking glum about dragging our bags up the stairs, we were then offered the more modern rooms in "La Villa" (belonging to the Hotel) diagonally opposite. "La Villa" has lifts! The"Comfort double" room was large, quiet and clean with comfortable beds. There was a desk with chair, a small table, armchairs, tea making facilities, lots of power points and good storage space. Also a balcony with chairs. The bathroom and shower were fine. We ate dinner in the restaurant which was a mixed experience. We were 3 and only 1 of us was happy with the meal. I had cauliflower soup which was neither very cauliflowery nor tasty. The other meals were - Mühlhausen Flammkuchen which was dry with very little topping - beef roulade with Thüringer Kloßen (dumpling) and Apfelrotkohl (apple mousse with red cabbage) which was fine. The buffet breakfast had a good selection of cold meats, cheese, bread, cereals, juices etc. Overall a good 3 star hotel, very reasonably priced.
