Magdalena and family, from Uruguay.

Evening mealStayed at a nearby B&B - went to this hotel for our evening meal. It was so good we returned the following night. Steak was cooked perfectly. All food was good. Staff were excellent. Enjoyed both evenings here.

Dog ruffWe stayed here 21st September thank god it was only for one night. We booked the annex ground floor It was shabby & in need of good decoration and stank of dogs They had put so many air fresheners around to mask the smellI and it did not !!! The carpet was disgusting filthy & dirty. Before you get handed the keys and the staff member makes a quick exit as she quoted I finish at 11pm and theres no-one here. Look around the room and leave We arrived in the dark and was going out for the evening so we were in a rush .............no sleep through the smell left early did not even eat breakfast.the shower needs attention running very hot and dangerous. Never again it would of been cleaner sleeping on a park bench.

Needs overhauling'Elegant Georgian country house lodging with polished rooms, plus free cooked breakfast and Wi-Fi' This is how the hotel is marketed. In short: - The staff knew nothing of the buildings history at all. No information to be found about this country house either. - The staff weren't particularly friendly. They seemed pissed off they had to serve us. We were told the chef was 'going home early' as it was so quiet. This was a Saturday night. We were rushed to order to eat and to finish. - The food was shop bought and heated up in a microwave. It was really awful. - The bedroom stank of damp dogs. The carpet was sticky. The bed was rock hard and you couldn't pull the duvet up it was like it was mailed into the mattress. - In the bathroom the wallpaper was falling off the wall and ceiling exposing the damp. This 'elegant country housr' needs much tlc as it's such a shame it's been left to fall apart. The staff needs to go on catering and hospitality courses.

Dirty carpets, Holes in walls and unusable showerThis hotel is beyond tired! The building itself has been quite grand in its day and looks ok from the outside but once you step inside it disappoints and the further you go in the worse it gets! The sitting area is adequate and the bar area is fine but when you go up the stairs towards the rooms you start to see the decline. The carpet on the stairs belongs in a skip and should have been replaced decades ago. I did search for a stain free stair but didn't find any! Once inside the room (we had 206 on the top floor) the worst was evident. The room itself clearly had problems on the ceiling with paint peeling off and various levels of discoloration across the room. The carpet was tired and the furniture was like stepping back in time. Having said that i thought the bed was quite comfy! The bathroom was frankly a disgrace! And what made it worse was the it appeared to have been recently renovated. The door had no stop on it which meant the door handle and coat hook had left holes in the plasterboard walls. The sink had been replaced but fitted at 90 degrees to the mirror and the tiled wall leaving you shaving leaning over the sink and craning your neck to see in the mirror. The floor at the side of the bath had obviously suffered with getting damp and if you sat on the toilet you could feel the floor boards bowing leaving you concerned you were going to end up in the room below. The shower unit, which is just part of the bath mixer tap, has clearly recently been replaced and looked quite nice although out of keeping with the chipped enamel bath below. The shower had little pressure coming out unless you had the cold tap on full meaning that the shower was never going to be a pleasant experience. This was made significantly worse by the fact that, on both occasions I tried, there was no hot water. Even on hot only and leaving it some time to allow for the hot to get through the pipes the water was far too cold to stand under. It's a shame because the staff seemed quite nice and the breakfast was ok if not exceptional. Overall, I would not want to stay in this hotel again. We were there for a nearby wedding and so I didn't get involved in the research. A Premier Inn or a Travelodge would be a significant upgrade to this hotel so perhaps do your own research!
