    Convenience & surprise

We had stayed there in February 2018 for 2 nights. The location is great as near the train station and s small supermarket. Its convenience for travelling to & from JR station. our room is Wamodern typevwith private Ibsen, twin beds & resting area. It was supposed me that the room also gave a stone spa which did not introduce in the web site. The spa area is bigger enough for 2 persons inside. You can enjoy the hot spring together with stone spa in room which gave us unforgettable experience. The food and service is good. For the view of public onsen at 13/F., you can stay at sitting area to see the view of Hakodayevcity and airport. Recommend to stay there when you visit YunokawabOnsen.

Best solo experience ever - made possible by staff that take quality service to heart

Yunokawa onsen is the west-most location. It's not centrally located and there's a time cost to staying there. Getting to Hakodate's main attractions will take at least half an hour. That said, this is by far the best hotel experience I've had. I arrived late in the evening and they accommodated me and even delayed my dinner so I could take a shower first which I greatly appreciated as it was really thoughtful. The rooms were extremely spacious for a single room in Japan. Decorated with wood and muted earth tones it was a clean design that was masculine and I personally loved it. Not much of a view from the room though since it's located in the neighbourhood and facing the street. But not a big deal. Onsen was small by most standards but I did enjoy the morning views in the outside bath. You can see Mount Hakodate in the distance. And I especially love that they have a massage chair just outside to help relax after a refreshing dip. The kaiseki dinner was the star of the show here. To be honest, I almost felt like it was a 5-star restaurant that offered a free room with the meal! You get your own personal room at dinner. And the service was prompt and the servers always cheerful and hardworking. They also take care to be mindful of your meal preferences. My one gripe is that they don't speak much English and the menu is in Japanese only. So I had to depend on Google Translate very heavily. That aside, the quality of the food itself was mind-blowing. The preparation was meticulous down to the angles and placement of the food served as well as the colours employed in each course. Such beautiful plating! They served what seemed like Japanese fusion for a majority of the meal. And the chef's cooking truly shines when he applied more western techniques to the Japanese ingredients which was a welcome and refreshing change after having had so much traditional Japanese food during my holiday. That said, you still get traditional Japanese food as well like sashimi. Sometimes simple is the best. The appetizers were inspired, mains phenomenal, and deserts divine. I had no idea what I was eating half the time but I literally loved everything that was served. The dinner here is truly an event (taking up to 2 hours!) that I look forward to at the end of each tiring day! In summary, I'd highly recommend this hotel for solo travelers (and couples) despite the distance from the main areas of interest. This place is more than a hotel, it's an experience.

    What a view

The service is amazing at this onsen/ryokan. The food service was incredible and the quality was first rate. The only concerns that we ran into was the bed which was far to firm and the air conditioner really didnt work so we ended up leaving the windows open to cool off the room and this is April where the outside temp was 7c. Not sure what it would be like in the hotter months. After the onsen you really do need air conditioning to fall asleep

    Modern & Classical Design

I visited to Hakodate 1st time. Interior design is Modern and Classical. Its good atmosphere. Hot Spring is good. There are outside bath on the Top floor. And room bath is easy to enjoy Hot Spring. Dinner is mixed cuisine Japanese & Western. We enjoyed with Wine and Japanese Sake. They recommended good marriage wine. Good and warm service.

Nice hotel but service staff a bit cool

This is our 2nd time to Hakodate since March 11, 2011 and we chose this hotel for we liked the brand when we stayed at Noguchi Noboribetsu. The duplex suite Room we booked was spacious with private Onsen yet it may be inconvenient that we have to carry our luggage up and down the stairs at times esp when checkout. The room is with Good brand bathroom amenities like LOccitane and was comfortable. Breakfast and Dinner were served in private room of restaurant but staff were in a hurry to serve (not waiting us to finish one course before another) and food has nothing special in presentation. In fact, on one night, they missed the sea urchin rice which mentioned on the menu and we were given plain rice instead. Food for dinner was generally Japanese crossover western. For Breakfast, though we ordered western style, it came out to be only half western. On the last day, our Breakfast order was wrong when both should be western but were given 1 western and 1 Japanese. Fortunately it can be changed. Overall, a trendy hotel yet service and food can be further improved.
