Borgo Vallesanta is operated by Leonardo Fuccini and his family. It is located in the tiny village of Duddova. A short drive up the hill from Ambra, and 20 minutes from Montevarchi (where Prada's outlet is located). Duddova is a beautiful little village (population 16) at the top of a hill, surrounded by olive orchards and grape vineyards. The Borgo is composed of three apartments with a swimming pool and nice outdoor garden/patio area. The apartments are adjoining so they are perfect for an extended family or a large group of friends. We had two of the apartments for our family of six, and were able to open an adjoining door so the kids could move freely upstairs and downstairs between the two units. The units are nicely furnished with rustic antiques, old family photos, art and decor. You feel like you are staying in an old family home. The beds are firm but comfortable. The bathrooms are tiny, but everything works well, and it is charming and comfortable. The full kitchen is stocked with all the tools you need to fix a meal, and you can buy provisions at the Bottega Duddova (wine, cheese, salumi, fruit, baked goods) which is also owned by Leonardo and his family, and you can get everything else at the market down in Ambra. The butcher in Ambra is a genius - he makes the best Porchetta I've ever had, and his house made salami is incredible. Leonardo, his wife and his parents also run the Bottega Duddova, which is open for lunch and dinner six days a week. Leonardo's mom is the chef, and like most Italian mommas, she is a wonderful cook. I could be content to spend a week's worth of evening out on the patio sipping their wine and eating her delicious cooking. Duddova makes a nice base from which to explore Tuscany, and it is exactly the sort of relaxing experience that makes me long to return to Tuscany again and again. Ciao!
