Interesting 'presidential' accommodation.Former lodge for the Lebanese president, on the banks of the Kafue river. It is in the Mushingashi Conservancy, which allows private hunting. Jairos was an excellent guide - extremely knowledgeable - went to great lengths to find what we wanted - I would certainly use him again. The food was only average, which was a great shame. It is along drive from Lusaka, which did spoil it a bit, especially at the end of the safari. The elephants can be quite volatile, and you need to keep your distance.

Never forget our amazing tripMy sister and I spent 3 nights on Safari with Bongwe. We stayed in their guest house in Lusaka, which they threw in for free. This is quite basic accommodation but was convenient as we met our safari guide there. Our safari was tailored to our requirements and our safari guide Jairos was absolutely amazing. He knew everything about the animals, trees, plants; there wasn't anything he didn't know. The staff at the lodge were warm and friendly and we awoke every morning to an open fire outside and ate our breakfast overlooking the Kafue; the same again in the evening when we returned from night safari. There was certainly no shortage of game on this trip; withing 2 hours of entering the park we saw 80-100 elephant and saw elephant crossing the Kafue from our lodge (3.30pm most days) as well as lions, loads of different varieties of antelope, eagles, vultures, hornbill, hippo, the list goes on. This was a once in a life time trip for my sister and me and one that we will remember forever. Thank you Jairos et al for looking after us so well. Kate and Ani

Brilliant Afternoon SafariWe were visiting Zambia as Christian Aid supporters, visiting some of the supported projects. Our free afternoon we booked on a Bongwe Safari, and hit the jackpot. Our driver / guide Malambo was friendly, skilled and extremely knowledgeable about all the wildlife we saw on the safari. We were picked up promptly and drove to the Musotunya National Park, Livingstone. Malambo seemed to know were we should go to see the wildlife, and encouraged us to spot animals ourselves - which he then gave us a wealth of information on. He was able to spot animals / birds and drive safely at the same time, and the afternoon went by all too quickly. Towards the end we picked up a guard and went to the Rhino visiting area, where we tracked bush style to view a mother and young Rhino. Then on the return we stopped for a relaxing sunset drink and snack overlooking the Zambezi before the return to the hotel. An amazing afternoon, thanks so much Malambo - we encourage anyone looking for an adventure in Livingstone to book with Bongwe Safaris - you won't be disappointed.

Chetongwe camp Jairos Nyamowa excellent guideWe booked with Bongwe from the UK and two weeks before they suggested moving us to a different camp because the original had poor game. Chitongwe camp was basic but clean with flush toilets; intact mozzy nets and great staff. There were only three other people staying. We had requested veggy food which was provided without any prompts or mistakes. It was abundant and very tasty but not gourmet ( I wouldn't expect this at a bush camp. Jairos Nyamowa was our guide and was fantastic. We searched unsuccessfully for the local lions but had a great birding experience. His knowledge was encyclopaedic but not overconfident or patronizing. How he spotted and identified things so early and reliably was awesome. His bushcraft and motor mechanic skills were also superb. Overall he looked after us very well we couldn't hope for better. We would strongly recommend Kafue and Jairos.

Good stuff and problematic stuffThe good. Jairos is in fact an expert guide. He found, by an amazing tracking job, one of the most thrilling sights I have ever seen - a pride of lions resting in the bush - lioness, 2 lions, and 4 cubs. He managed this by tracking and figuring out where they were likely to be, and then driving into the bush and finding them - an awesome job. The rest of the game viewing was OK - my point of view may have been skewed by having gone to South Luangwa before and having consistently seen an amazing quantity and variety of wildlife well beyond that which was found here. The problems. This outfit appears to be drastically economising. Jairos served not only as our guide, but as our caterer (bought the food, stayed in the kitchen while it was being cooked, cleared plates), waiter, mechanic, and as his own spotter on night drives, a less than ideal situation and one that I have not previously seen attempted.. The facilities we were put up in were not those advertised on the website and were not of the quality advertised on the website. The game truck was uncomfortable and unreliable (no grab bar on the first row of seats; the last two with so little leg room that my slightly less than 6 foot tall husband had to position his knees sideways). The people who came in after us had their first "game drive" by being in the truck with us while we were being driven out to the gate for transport to Lusaka - a two hour trip which took them away from the prime game areas near the river. Comments. Jairos is very capable and very accommodating. We all liked him. He made steady efforts to ameliorate problems as they arose.
