    Very nice, authentic

I stayed here & it's a nice, clean, simple hotel. Not at all touristy or glitzy. It's quite easy to get to on either the tram or subway around 20 mins. The area is residential, so not glamorous - or full of tourists - but if you want to see what Prague is like away from tourists & in the suburbs this is fine. Food in the restaurant is good too. There's a few local pubs in walking distance that are cheaper for food, but it's all much cheaper out where the Czechs live!

    Good value

We had a good stay here. It's a bit out of the centre - we walked in and it took a bit over an hour along a single straight, flat road - but the metro at Vysocanska is only five minutes away and you can go anywhere from there. The staff were friendly and spoke acceptable English and although it was quiet, we liked that. There's a little park in front and very little traffic. Downstairs there's an Italian-style trattoria that is open late and does great pasta and salads at a good price. The room we had was a standard twin room, but it has been made from two rooms, so it had a lot of space for luggage in front of the en suite bathroom. The view isn't pretty, but it was snow-covered when we arrived anyway, and the hotel heating made the place very cosy. The beds were comfortable and the place was very clean. The only downsides were that you're restricted to Czech and German television channels in the rooms, and the breakfast was very basic (though there is a really good coffee shop / bakery within 100 yards that opens early) . It isn't the sort of place to appeal to stag and hen parties, but the trattoria is open to locals who drop in for coffees and beers, so you get the chance to meet some young (well-behaved) Czechs too.

    Never again

I have been in Prague before so luckily I have had other good experiences but this hotel was a nightmare. As we arrived and although we had already paid a night in advance, we were forced to pay all the week in advance in order to get the room key. Of course, it would have been enough to spend one night there before deciding not to stay any longer! The room was fine but a distinct odour of having been smoked there and covered by deodorant was evident. The en suite bathroom had a tab with shower but no curtain or screen so every time we shower the whole place was wet and there was nothing to dry the floor and no action taken although we kindly asked the first night to get a curtain or something to to avoid walking on wet floors every day. The towels were nor changed after 3 days and we as they were still wet not only dirty, we had to put them into the reception desk the 3dr night to force them to change them (the answer was was it due day?) Breakfast was very dull with very little options of anything not to mention the coffee being in on of those heaters that over cooked the thing making it smell poorly. Marmalades -comfitures were of the lowest imaginable jelly sugary type. The internet wireless service they said to offered never worked (they gave you a code but did not work at all and when inquiring at reception they claimed to have no idea or understanding of the system). The single PC at reception was available but also failed constantly and we got some help from other guest as hotel staff again had no idea. The connected to reception pizzeria in the ground floor was a smoking allowed area making the reception a place with a mixture of food and smoke and even the waiters (who claimed to have no understanding of English) smoked in between servicesso great if you dont smoke!! You got it even in your plate!. When we asked to cancel the rest of the staying even being ready to pay a penalty fee, we were informed that cancellation was not an option, they will charge 100% o (we had yet 5 nights to go yet!). Only one receptionist at night was friendly and sympathetic but the ones who seemed to be the manager and the owner, were very impolite and rude when we tried talking with them, and they spoke (in check) between themselves ignoring or claiming they did not understand. So never never again. A lousy place, will never recommend.

Maybe a 2 star but no better

We had a conference up the street at the Clarion but decided to save our company some money by booking this instead (Clarion is 170euro a night) So here are the pros and cons Pro, The room and bathroom are very large. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is free wifi but only on ground floor and first floor. Breakfast included (basic but good). Very close to metro and tram. Near a busy street but still quiet. Con, Bathroom shower hose was leaking and resulted in spraying and soaking the room every time it was used. There is no shower curtain, just large tub and the hose thing so you have to spray yourself, no choice unless you prefer a bath. Linens and towels are not changed daily. I used a glass and left it on the desk in full view but it was not replaced or cleaned for 3 days. One day I ran out of TP, there was no spare roll in the bathroom. Booked a double but was given a room with twin beds and they are stuck to the wallso you can not push them together even if you prefer a larger bed or are travelling with spouse. The room had a futon sofa but it appeared old and a bit stained with popped buttons on the fabric cover, would have been better if it was removed from the room and I did not see it. If you need to be in this area we had collegues also at the Carol hotel a few minutes walk away and it seemed much better than Bohemika (same price.....80euro a night)
