nice breaknot going into the negatives caused by covid, we had a nice relaxing stay ,rooms spotless staff friendly, food was fine considering the constriction's. The hotel was having to find it's way as much as we were they tried to change thing's to see if it worked better one way or another top mark's for at leased trying. queuing is a problem at mealtime's in all hotels. Thanks for a nice holiday

Horrendous foodLocation: Great, right on the beach and close to town. Hotel itself: Foyer, quite nice. Bar area etc-quite nice which some seating under cover and some out on the terrace. However, the photos make it look nicer than it is. For kids they have a volley ball court (but you need to buy your own ball -we found one for E5). 2 x table tennis courts but thankfully they do supply the bats and ball. .There were 2 football nets around the stairs where our room was and the kids had great fun playing mini football. There is a large games room next to the bar with snooker, air hockey, pinball etc (but everything costs). The windsurfing place is just on the edge of the property next to the beach. They had good kit. The Windsurfing was expensive for an 1 hour, but if you did a whole week it wasn't so bad. This was the whole reason we chose this hotel, but unfortunately the wind didn't appear so we didn't do much. Staff: All very nice especially one of the really lovely younger receptionists (medium length dark hair) who was especially helpful and kind. One older lady appeared to take a dislike to our family and the people at the surf shack weren't particularly unhelpful. Rooms: The rooms in the main hotel (we had 229 initially) were a bit dated, especially the bathroom which really needed a revamp and the rooms were very very noisy (other people scraping their chairs on the floor even in the middle of the night) and the air con didn't work. We had a suite and you could see the other beds in the room from he main double bed which didn't help the kids getting to sleep. We moved to 570 which looked almost brand new. It was much much nicer. It was bigger with a separate bedroom and a sitting room with dining table and a sofa bed. The main bedroom was well sized and had a sliding door. It unfortunately only had a small window with no view. However, in the living area there were 2 balcony's (it was on the corner of the hotel) with views of the pool and of the sea. It also had it's own front door up a separate staircase (so not good for mobility issues) but for us was great and preferable during covid. The bathroom was modern (although the tap was broken). The bar area had tea and coffee but they didn't bring you any new milk and the plugs were broken and came out when you removed devices. They didn't change the tea/coffee cups which was odd but washed them up in the bathroom for us, which seems far less hygienic The room was over the games room but still had hotel rooms above but didn't seem to have the sound issue like the previous room. My mother had a sea view bungalow (510) which was great for her needs, clean, modern and directly on the beach. Short walk to everything. I didn't notice the noise of the planes like some other reviews. Maybe during covid there aren't that many. Pool: Nice, but a bit cold. Everyone was crammed around the pool, drinking alcohol from early in the morning, playing their own music on speakers, shouting and swearing. We sat on the beach and paid the extra for the sun beds. The sun bed man was very chatty and nice and for not sitting around the pool was definitely worth it. Just factor it into the cost so it doesn't feel quite so annoying to have to pay. The beach was stony which was painful!! Bring water shoes so you can get in and out of the sea easily! The sea was gorgeous, warm, clear blue. I was very happy lying surrounded by palm trees looking out at Turkey in the distance. Food: All I can say is horrific, but you could find stuff to eat in a push. It is a buffet but due to covid you have it all served to you in queues. However, it was badly organised so the bread was in the same long queue as for the omelettes. The jams and spreads were then in another queue. I had kefir (which was nice) and greek yogurt and honey every day which was actually really delicious. At the start you could have it with a grain topping, but that then was off the menu, then I had it with almonds and walnuts but then the almonds stopped. Then I had it with just walnuts and honey. I know it's the end of the season but really? They had fresh (grapefruit, kiwi, orange, occ melon) and tinned fruit next to it. The rest of my party had various breads which were ok. The omelettes were good actually and worth the queue. Sometimes they had some really nice grilled vegetables next to them. The normal eggs/bacon etc, were vile. Greasy and often cold. They occasionally had pancakes which my kids liked, but then had to queue in a separate queue for the spreads. The coffee....really bad. We were half board but wanted to go out for dinner and didn't want to leave during the day so had lunch instead. I usually had a salad from the salad bar which weren't too bad. Although when I was in Greece last I had amazing and tasty tomatoes. Not here, they were like the English ones...tasteless. Some of the cheeses were nice at the salad bar, the feta was not that great. They occasionally had some nice hot grilled vegetables like aubergines or courgettes etc. I had a spinach pie once and I don't know how they made the pastry so hard and inedible. Shame as the tiny bit of filing in it was actually quite nice. The meat tended to be very low quality and not very hot. The souvlaki they did with pitta bread could have been amazing but the pita was so dried up it was inedible. The moussaka was edible but not that great. They did some amazing meat balls on one day. The kids enjoyed the chips and pasta. Unfortunately they ended up wasting loads of food as even when they kids they asked to be served a small amount of x, they piled the plate high and then they'd try it and not like it. The ribs were apparently good on one day but the other days were fatty and tasteless. The puddings were particularly bad, although I did have some nice Baclava on one day. The fruit was generally past its best like furry nectarines and plums. It was all a bit hit and miss but no one went hungry. The room they serve it in is also terrible. A huge huge peach hall, that look like it was decorated in the 80's. Huge windows that barely open. There is a covered terrace which was slightly nicer but it was hard to get a table in there at breakfast and they closed it at lunch (why???). Just the experience of being in that room was awful. One one day the kids upgraded to all inclusive with the lure of free endless drinks, snacks (including cookies) and ice cream.. The adults did not. They expected to be able to get the pancakes, the hot dogs etc from the surf shack.. But no, they were all extra. The only things they got were a load of canteen style food that sat there all day going dry and swimming in fat...onion rings, croquettes, pita wraps, nuggets, cheese toast, chips which were very low quality. They did have a lot of drinks (fizzy orange etc) but they weren't the bottled ones. They were supposed to get cookies but they didn't have any so they gave them those little ginger biscuits you get with coffee in a packet which they loved. However, they clearly ate so many they were told they weren't allowed anymore.I questioned this and explained with the all inclusive they were supposed to be able to have unlimited cookies so they went off the the kitchen and bought them back a plateful of house ones which were surprisingly good. When we tried to find them again at breakfast/lunch they weren't as nice. The ice cream was another lure, but unfortunately they only had very low quality banana and strawberry. Neither flavours any of my children will eat. They just wanted vanilla. I can't believe they wouldn't have vanilla ice cream. Needless to say the crepe stall next to it was not free. On the plus side Ialyssos has lots of restaurants, shops, bars, a fab (but expensive) ice cream bar, bike rental etc. All the people serving in them are so grateful for the support to the tourist trade. It was very sad that several of the other local hotels (big and small) were closed as were several of the local restaurants. It is also a short (8km) ride to Rhodes town, although the route you have to take for half of it is on a very busy road so you wouldn't want to cycle with very young children. We rented great bikes (around the corner from the hotel) for E19 for half a day. You can also get the bus for E2.50 for an adult directly into town, the bus stop is a short walk away from the hotel. Did we have a nice week....yes, we felt very blessed to have got away during Covid and lying by the beach was fab. The new room was actually really nice so I really appreciated that. The younger lady at reception was really kind and helpful. Would I return to this hotel again? No. It needs a massive overhaul and life is too short to eat such poor food and this hotel is not 4*.

Great hotel. We think this hotel is very nice, and we would love to come back. We chose our stay with breakfast only, and we dont have anything to complain about, there was plenty of different things to choose from. And the staff is very helpful and kind. Some sundbeds around the pool did defenatly need a replacement, and so did some chairs in the area near the "stage". The room was nice and had all we needed, so all in all we enjoyed our stay, and will definatly recommend this hotel to others.
