superb hotelwere extremely nice and friendly and the location is right in the vicinity of Iceland's capitol, Reykjavik. We hardly ever had to take the bus. The room was cozy and we had no trouble sleeping. Thumbs up!!

No-frills hotelWe did not book this hotel directly; we were put up here when the hotel we booked was full. I understand that this hotel is normally a hall of residence for the near-by university but offers accommodation to tourists in the summer. Our room was clean but basic. The toiletries were in plastic pouches. Our "double room" had two single beds, which is not mentioned on the hotel's website. The breakfast buffet was average. The juice was so watery it was nearly undrinkable, but the ability to toast your own bread was appreciated. The prices on the hotel's website seem a bit high for what is basically one step up from a youth hostel, but Iceland is expensive and this hotel is not bad for a basic hotel. The location is good. Even though it seems to be on a large road, our road-facing room was extremely quiet. It is a bit of a walk to the city centre (15-20 minutes) but has lovely views of the beach. It is also walking distance to the domestic airport.

HorribleWe booked a room with kitchen for 99 but they charged for the kitchenette kit (18 per day). Moreover, noone cleaned the room in 4 days. They only put two more towels. The brakfast was horrible, nothing was clean, ham and cheese were already dry and disgusting and noone was there to give any spoon clean.

comparing it to Blue Arctic Hotel GardurinHaving read the reviews posted for this hotel, I wish to say a word about my experience with its sister hotel, the Blue Arctic Hotel Gardurin which my friend and I stayed 3 nights in Jun 2011. This hotel is located 121at Hringbraut 105, 101 Reykjavík; not far alway from Sudurgata. Both can be reached easly from Keflavik airport by taking the Flybus which runs every 40-45 min. There are also local buses with stops just outside the hotels and gets to the downtown area well within 10-15 min; or one can walk - just downslope -pass the Flybus station and fastfood restaurents and a park- it's already the outer skirt of downtown. Both hotels are basically a hostal cater for large group bookings but everything (I had gone into Gardurin to look) is clean and tidy. Their breakfast should be what continental breakfast means but do provide additional ham and fruit - what more to expect for such low room price! What's important to us had been the service - the staff were very friendly and helpful; we couldn't have completed a full day-tour of the Iceland Platimum Circle as well as our sightseeing of all Reykjavik landmarks all within our 3 days stay in Iceland. So I would anticipate Blue Arctic Hotel Sudurgata not below the same standard. By the way, the Gardurin one, I've just been told is now withdrawn from the hotel listing as it is now used mainly as a doom for some bible study functions.
