Like a paradiseVery nice hotel on a small hill direct at the beach and with a great seaview. You can enjoy at the the pool and the beautiful garden around. Claudia, the owner of the hotel, comes from Germany and lives here since she was 7 years old. She created a really enjoyable place with a pretty familiar atmosphere. The restaurant is also to be recommended, every dish is prepared freshly and you have a large selection of local, international and also vegetarian food. We spent a few days here, during we were travelling with our expeditiontruck from Germany to South Africa. It was a blessing for us to visit this lovely place on our journey.

Beautiful and peaceful locationThe view from the top of the hill is breathtaking. The environment is very relaxing and great for peaceful walks along the beach. I would highly recommend it for couples, families and groups. It is a family owned property.

Relaxing atmosphereThe journey into this resort was bumpy on the untarred long road. It is off the beaten track but has the potential to be paradise with better maintenance of the chalets. We stayed two nights. Apart from the restful hammocks and the poolside bar & restaurant We made our own entertainment. The beach was beautiful with white sand, but full of crabs of multiple sizes

A Bit Tired But Very RelaxingBiriwa Beach Hotel, established about 42 years ago, was once the only hotel on the highway between Accra and Tacoradi. Over the years the property was developed into what you see today. Located on the top of a hill overlooking the sea, the hotel is well located for visits to local sites such as Cape Coast Castle, Elmina Castle, and Kakum National Park. While Biriwa has become a bit tired and could use some maintenance both inside and outside, the hotel has a very relaxing environment with an outdoor swimming pool, gardens with a pond, and an outdoor cabana dining area. The hotel only has 7 rooms so it's not as if you would be overcrowded at the swimming pool or dining area. Our stay was split into 2 parts - a one-night stay on our way to Cape 3 Points and an unplanned 3-night stay when our visit to Cape 3 Points ended abruptly due to rains. Rooms are simple and spacious. The swimming pool was very relaxing and refreshing, particularly in the heat and humidity. The open-air dining cabana was a pleasant change from eating in enclosed restaurants. Due to Biriwa being located on the top of a hill, we got a nice view of the Gulf of Guinea from the pool and dining cabana. The pond and gardens added to the relaxing atmosphere. The driveway has been described as being "off the main road" and "washed out". We found this wasn't the case at all. The hotel is located a very short distance at the end of a long driveway. As with most gravel driveways and roads subjected to rains around Cape Coast, there were some ruts in the gravel but nothing serious to impair an ordinary vehicle to get to the hotel. The cabana dining room offers a simple menu of local foods. Make sure you place your food order when you place your order for drinks and beverages. The menu advises a wait from 20 to 45 minutes. That's very, very true. However, relax, enjoy the view, and talk to your partner about what you did today. Like I said, Biriwa could be a nice place to relax and chill out. When you arrive at Biriwa, make sure you're shown where the switches for the air conditioning and the fan are located (underneath the window, in the middle for the AC. On the wall by the bed for the fan) and how to operate them (you can't adjust the AC). You don't want to be fumbling around in the dark trying to locate those switches. Make sure the fan isn't too noisy as it can drive you crazy. Like I said, Biriwa is a bit tired but a bit of paint on the exterior and some attention made to noisy fans, squeaky doors, a faster service in the cabana restaurant would spruce up the place and add some zest. A bit of training for the restaurant staff would help speed up food service. Otherwise, we found our stay to be most relaxing and enjoyable.

Good rooms, but theft concernsMy host booked this location for me, but I would not have booked it myself based on the reviews of theft of the rooms. I could not enjoy the area or walk outside for very long, concerned about theft of items in my room (which many other reported). However, the room I stayed in was very nice (end room with double bed, window view to ocean (I think it is room 101 if you stay here - best room out those we had rented). I could never get hot water in the shower or sink (and yes, I did turn the heater on). The AIr Conditioning is controlled by the hotel (you have no control at all) and there is a ceiling fan. I was comfortable for my stay, but I would have preferred a cooler room which I could control. The pool appeared clean (no stagnation), perhaps have improved their pool treatment since other poor reviews. The sound of the splashing waves on the beach can be enjoyed even in my room. But I did not visit the beach (because of theft concerns in my room). The bed was comfortable, possibly some type of foam bed, (room decor in Room 101) above average this region. I also saw room 103 which was two twin beds and not as ornate, but clean and nice. Overall, not one of the best places Ive stayed in the region(I like Cape Coast hotels better for just a couple more miles and a few dollars more - probably because Ive never had anything stolen from my room there - even when away from my room all day.). So if you want a nice place to sleep one night, and not leave the room for any sightseeing, this is. Good place. But I would pay attention to the posts reporting theft in rooms while away (or in one case while the person was still in their room).
