  Nice cottages with plenty of space and good facilities

  We came in the late afternoon after a tour on Doubtful Sound. We were surpriced to see that the cottage had both a nice living room with kitchen as well as a large bedroom. All facilites were there - fridge, tea koffe etc. Each cottage was in a smaal garden of its own so we had privace also when sitting on the porch.

  Adequate, Clean, Convenient & Private cottage

  We stayed here for 2 nights. Great place to stay if you want to do the Milford Sound tour or hikes nearby or Glow worms tour. The cottages are self contained - super clean, have a decent kitchenette and a private patio too. Check in was super easy and fast - Dee showed us to our cottage. Milk in the fridge always a nice touch. Cottage has lot of natural light which is great. Our cottage was close to the road but there's not a ton of cars going thru that road so it wasn't noisy. Close to city center. Ristorante Pizza Paradiso is excellent. Miles Better Pies is one of our favs. They only take NZ debit cards and cash tho. Four Square and Pharmacy in town center is close by as well. Cascade Creek, Lake Marian, Mirror Lakes, Key Summit - all easy to get to. Beautiful and easy drive. We gave the place 4 stars only because the bed was a bit too soft for our liking. Check out was easy as well. There is an AC/heater in the cottage.

  Cottages need some investment

  We stayed for one night at the Birchwood cottages before joining a good Fjordland tour to the Milford Sound the following day (I definitely recommend the tour). The cottages need some investment to keep up with standards that constantly improving in New Zealand. I was surprised by the high rating as this mislead us and in the end disappointed us versus expectations (and versus all the other great places where we have stayed in our tour of the NZL South Island).

  Cottage for six

  We were 6 friends staying in one of the three bedroom cottages. It was an excellent property and had everything we needed. Dee was very helpful on reception and gave us a warm welcome. Would recommend staying here as a group. The cottage was set on it's own just up the road from the main site so we had our own house all to ourselves. Very close to town which was a short walk.

  Friendly welcome, good quality accommodation

  Spent two nights at the Birchwood. Great location for a more relaxing Milford experience - so nice not to have to drive all the way back to Queenstown. The cottage was spotless and well presented. Loved the bed and linen
