Schneeballencafe - when in Rome, give it a tasteIt's a large ball of crunchy pastry covered in powdered sugar (or you can opt for the more heavily coated chocolate and similar flavors). Keep it simple and go with plain just to say you tried it. The pastry is sold everywhere in the town but is actually made outside of Rothenburg. They are all the same except some bakeries have more selection, but always have the plain ones.

It is a "Schneeballen" ShopAt this place is NOT a hotel. It is a "Schneeballen" (Snowball) shop. "Schneeballen" is a pastry made from shortcrust pastry in the form of a ball and is the speciality of Rothenburg. You can find it in all kind of taste of colour. All is sweet. It's not really cheap. Good service. The right address is Hofbronnengasse 18.

Schneeball (snow ball) ShopDiller is a shop where they make the signature pastry of Rothenburg, the "Schneeball" (snow ball). My friends told me to definitely try one and so we chose Diller, the original creator of this local specialty. The pastry, we picked the Nougat and the traditional flavor, was so sinfully good! It's hard to describe what it is made out of but it's a crunchy pastry that tends to crumble easily, dusted with powdered sugar. I would definitely recommend trying it! The shop assistant was friendly and helpful.

Not a hotel, but a nice pastry shopWe had no idea what a Schneeball was until girlfriend dragged me into this store out of curiosity. The lady who served us was very nice and a pastry itself was delicious! Too bad you cannot get this treat in other countries.
