First Camp on the reopening of Binna BurraAfter the bushfires and destruction of much of the lodge in September 2019, we were happy to visit on the reopening of the camp ground in September 2020. The Chair of Binna Burra, Stephen, his wife Suzanne and incoming CEO Jonathon were busy and ever present ensuring guests were enjoying the campsites, on-site tents, guest facilities and all round hospitality. This was much appreciated. The facilities were spotless and the Gondwanaland experience, as always, was amazing. We spent three days and did the Caves circuit, Daves Creek circuit, and Tamawalal walks. The rainforest was amazing. The legacy of the fire was noted in closed tracks and a bushfire gallery and movie. I would recommend a visit to Binna Burra to enjoy the amazing rainforest and hear the bird song.

Binna BurraMy daughter and I stayed in the Safari tents at Binna Burra. This is the first time we have been back since the bush fires. Staff were friendly, facilities clean and Safari tent well presented. We had a great time abs although there is still a lot of work to be done would recommend staying here to all.

Safari tentsMy family are not campers ... but we were keen for our children to experience something different. We stayed for 2 nights in the safari tents at Binna Burra Lodge. The tents are permanent structures with solid floors, beds and a little outdoor sitting area but have canvas walls like a tent and share the campsite bathrooms. The kids are still not committed campers but we did have fun. A couple of learnings: - we rented linen (about $100 for 5 beds for 2 nights) which was good quality and easy but not cheap - we had dinner at the tea house (sat dinner is much nicer than other nights - there are tablecloths and the cafe opens until 8.30pm rather than 6.30pm). Kids meals are always the same - $20 each for a basic dinner plus soft drink and ice cream - we didnt use the bbqs but did notice they might benefit from Binna burra leaving cleaning items for shared use (and to encourage people to leave the bbq as they find it) - we also sprung for several activities that helped with engaging the kids eg the night walk, a guided day walk and archery - this really helped give structure to our time at the campsite. The best thing about our experience was the people - it is not slick or the most professional business but, operated by 4th generation Groom family, there is a clear sense that the people who work there mostly love the land of which they are custodians and all the things living on it.

Beautiful location but facilities need an upgradeBinna Burra is an area of stunning natural beauty with fabulous views. I hesitate to be too critical of the facilities as the resort is still recovering from the bush fires. However half of the walks are currently closed which was a real disappointment. We stayed in the skylodges which were OK but limited in facilities including no wifi. We had the top floor of what essential are units which gives a bette review and higher ceilings. However they are not well soundproofed and there was significant noise from other occupants. As mentioned in other reviews, there catering options are limited and there is no grocery shop for topping up supplies.

Wonderful Couple of Days in the CloudsI arrived with my caravan having traversed the road up to Binna Burra which was fairly steep in places. I guess if you are 800 metres above sea level, then thats to be expected. No problems for me towing a smallish caravan with a 4WD. I had booked and paid in advance, so paperless check-in was a breeze. Friendly young lady at reception. On arrival the feeling of peace and quiet is instant with some gentle breezes. And of course, from time to time, birds and cicadas to let you know that you are in magical Aussie bushland. Good campsite, site deep enough so I didnt need to unhook the van. Wasnt there long before a bush turkey came to visit with a look that perhaps said wheres my lunch. I was at Binna Burra as a newbie and was only looking for a few short walks and lots of relaxing. Got all that. Some of the views are mind boggling, seems you can see forever. Wonderful rain forest everywhere with very tall trees, some monstrous. Most of the walks are 5km to around 20km. I couldnt do the longer ones so cant comment. Did the shortish rainforest loop walk and perhaps its best traversed clockwise. While doing my bush walk enjoying the mountain fresh-air ambience was a delight. With rainforest aplenty and everything so green then a bit of rain is to be expected and there was a shower or two while I was there. For me, that was an ideal time for reading, napping and maybe a glass of wine. Im not a morning or afternoon tea person and cooked my own meals so cant review the Tea House food. However, I was told that they have breakfast every day and at the moment the lunch menu goes through to early evening with the kitchen closing at 6.30 pm. Dinner menu with table service only on Friday and Saturday nights. They are licensed as well. Its the only restaurant, theres no shop so bring your own steaks and snags for the barbie. Apparently, The Teahouse is very popular with day visitors too, sometimes large groups. It seemed nice enough offering great views through the wall of windows all the way down to the Gold Coast. I also noticed picnic tables for day visitors in a grassed area on one side of The Teahouse, including barbeques. Sadly, the accommodation lodges were destroyed in the 2019 bushfire. The sky lounges are still there and they have lots of safari tent type accommodation, most with great views down the valley. My tip- If considering a safari tent try and book one near the top as they are all nestled into the side of the mountain with lots of steps to the bottom ones. Plus, they have many camp sites too for bring your own tent visitors. The amenities for campers and the safari tents were excellent, modern and very clean. And theres a camp kitchen with barbeques plus other undercover tables and barbeques scattered here and there. Fire wood can be purchased for a camp fire with your friends or neighbours, perhaps sharing the cost. Telstra and Wi-Fi reception excellent with tower right there. I was there during the week so not that busy, maybe a lot busier at weekends and school holidays. Good for a short stay unless you are hooked on lots of long bush walks as theres plenty of those, so perhaps a week would be ideal for a longer stay. My recommendation is if you have never been to Binna Burra then just do it. Im sure you will love the experience. Like most Aussie accommodation places of late Im sure they need lots of visitors to help them through these tough times.
