Could be a real gemJeez, given the location in historic Mount Vernon, this place should be a real gem. My first complaint, the elderly female clerk has zero personality. Never a smile or pleasant salutation, just a blunted affect; I wondered if she was on Haldol. Next, the dark, oily rug up to the 2nd floor is gross. Can't you guys afford clean carpet? On the bright side the rooms are large and feel historic and it's in a nice part of Baltimore. Send that lady to Charm School and clean your carpet and you might have a competitive edge. People would like to see this place reach its potential.

Very rough areaWe were two girls stopping over in Baltimore for a day of exploring. This hotel is situated in a very rough part of Baltimore. I'm surprised the reviews don't mention this more specifically, but on our way from penn station to the hotel, we were nearly mugged twice, and had about 7 people tell us to get inside. The hotel is dated but beautiful, just the the other reviews have stated. Our window did not lock though, which was slightly concerning. The doorbell would also go off all night. There was a very kind and helpful gentleman working there in the daytime who told us there would be coffee and breakfast provided as we waited for our taxi in the morning, as is stated here on TripAdvisor, but when we got downstairs there was nothing, and the gentleman at the desk just handed me a phone to call a cab. Not our best experience, but the hotel was very beautiful.

Returned 4 years later. Glad I did.Charming, historic, elegant ... but still slightly shabby. I last reviewed the Hotel Biltmore in December of 2013, everything I mentioned still holds true, but the management seems to be making small improvements here and there. The place is full of character, it is like staying at a mid-Nineteenth Century hotel in Paris or Vienna. The location is excellent, right in the heart of the gracious historic Mount Vernon district. My room had really high ceilings, a four poster bed, and lovely views. Towels and pillows were in good supply. Staff was very friendly and helpful. My main problem was the carpeting on the stairs and hallways - worn, stained, and in dire need of replacement. If you are handicapped I think you would accessibility difficult if not impossible. As I mentioned in my first review I am a romantic, and staying here was a treat!

Beyond dated, is threadwornWhile probably glamorous in its Heyday and in a great location, this building is not only old but pretty worn out. The steps are sunken and uneven, there is no elevator, which I can understand given the time it was built, but the wallpaper is peeling and rumpled, the paint is peeling, the doors don't close well and the furniture is worn out and threadbare. It is certainly a bargain for Baltimore but it feels cheap. Parking is two blocks away in the hospital parking lot that is not easy to navigate when you're unfamiliar with the area . Breakfast is a joke, thin coffee and some packaged Goods which weren't even available when we came down. It has a sitting room and a non-working fireplace so does count as a suite. The bathroom is old and small and the doors didn't close. It would be quaint if they at least fixed the wallpaper and the paint and put some new cushions on the chairs and replaced some furniture.
