Very comfortable stayWe stayed for 5 nights (to attend a wedding held in the hotel). Rooms were lovely - generous size and very chic. We ate in the hotel a couple of times and the food was amazing (especially a banquet in the Teppanyaki bar). The hotel was very busy as there were numerous weddings and events on during our stay (so the lifts were a little chaotic). Room service was OK (changed linen etc each day, which wasn't necessary, but we wanted the free bottled water each day!) A couple of times, we had to request the water for one of our rooms. We had Chinese interpreters in our group, so left the discussions with hotel staff to them. The breakfast buffet was extensive (predominantly Chinese style, but there was plenty to choose from). Only complaint was that the food was not always hot. For us, it was very good value for money, as we were part of a group, we had a special rate - not sure how it compares with the normal rate. The carpark and traffic in the area are quite chaotic - you need to pay attention when walking anywhere (general feeling is the traffic in Qinhuangdao is more chaotic/less law abiding, than in Beijing).

A large high-rise building!A large high-rise building. The huge main hall. Spacious rooms. At the same time, the almost complete lack of service. Very hard bed, which is not possible to sleep. Most of all, impressed an answer to the request, pour two glasses of cognac in the bar. Cognac and scotch, not sold by glass. If you want to drink, you have to buy a bottle entirely.

Exceeded expectionsVery nice hotel a manageable distance by foot from the railway station. The staff at the front desk were okay in English and very helpful to us in getting around. We had a room on the 20th floor and breakfast is served on the 25th so we had a panoramic view of our part of the city. Half a block towards the train station is a bus stop for the 33 bus which will take you to the front gate of the first pass of the Great Wall. Reasonable taxi from there will take you to Jiao Shan, where the Great Wall meets its first mountain. Steep hike up steps on the wall or easier path alongside, allow an hour each direction, more if you stop to take a lot of pictures.

Value for MoneyTravelled to Qinhuangdao via Beijing....reached Beijing by flight and travelled to Qinhunagdao by fast train 2hr 30 mins approx. Qinhuangdao is a typical holiday city. Booked this hotel through ctrip at 700 RMB against Hotel rates of 995 RMB which was quite decent. Language is the biggest hurdle. The rooms themselves are quite good, spacious with decent furniture and fittings, fast free wifi and TV with over 100 channels (one of which is in English, the CCN News channel). Overall a comfortable place to be. The view from the higher floors is good also, especially when the air clears. The room tariff included breakfast which had good options like steamed vegetables, boiled eggs, omletts, indian rotis, hot chocolate, yogurt, variety of breads, cakes, fruits though not a big variety but enough for almost vegetarian person like me. Never had dinner since costly. But understood has numerous traditional Chinese options are available for dining however, and if you have a Chinese speaker with you ordering is easy else you can drop plans to have a dinner. There are some user level english speaking receptionists however the language barrier was too large. The gym/fitness centre is not complimentary, an additional fee needs to be paid per use, and the swimming pool while being a reasonable size is jam packed with people so is no good for fitness swimming. The staff are very helpful barring english language skills where they could be and always very pleasant. I stayed for 20 days and once I was not well for 2 days the staff escorted me to the local hospital on both Saturday and Sunday. I owe the hotel staff my health. Laundry service prices are quite expensive however very quick. Lead time 4 hrs. In the area immediately around the hotel there is a Ugrant supermarket across the road which is good for consumables, toiletries, snacks and drinks (inluding beer and wine at good prices), Pizza Hut around the corner, a KFC across the road which is a big relief if you are not in tune with the Chinese Food taste. The bathroom and the toilet used to stink at times due to improper drainage of pee. The hotel is very lively since it hosts a lot of weddings. So a very nice place to be with family for holidays.

falling downI stayed at the Junyu Grand Hotel in Qinhuangdao for one night as part of a trip of north-east China. The hotel used to be part of Best Western, but it is not the case any longer. Only some logos are still present in the rooms. It is clear that the hotel is losing sparkle and that it is slowly falling down. Guest rooms are only available as of the 17th floor so the hotel is not suited for people scared of heights. Rooms are reasonably spacious, but they are dusty. The carpet is dirty with stains of different origin. Toilet paper is only available in thin rolls so one regularly needs to ask for more. Breakfast is served on the 25th floor, thus creating bottlenecks with the lifts. Not to be recommended.
