Ok for a couple of nights, but expensive

Been here since Feb 18 so have a very good understanding of issues that this place has. Is it a hotel for businesses to place their staff for long periods of time.....no definitely not hence I am moving to another hotel... Is it a hotel for local business yes very much so as they are only here for a very short period of time. Price - Overpriced by far.... you will get charged more than you would staying at a Best Western hotel in the UK and you will get nowhere near the service. Alcohol is 2 - 3 times more expensive and food is reasonable but standard and selection is very poor. Staff - There are very few staff who understand the meaning of customer service and you will understand this when you ask for simple things. You will often get a blank expression!! There are a handful of staff however that do understand and will help out as much as they can (Sam, Valentine, Alex, Kenny, Kenneth) the rest of those that deal with customers..... might as well not be there. Facilities - Look good from afar but are in fact in a poor state of repair. They have a pool bar which is the main function area during the evening / weekends and if football is on you have no other choice as all TVs in the hotel including your room will have it on as they want to watch it...... The pool itself is ok highly chlorinated however with no testing to ensure they have the correct level, so ensure you have goggles. It can be very busy during the weekends as locals come and use the facilities. The Gym is ok as they have a range of static cable machines and only 1 set of 10kg dumbbells. The machines have never been serviced and are old. I use this daily and everyday find myself having to tighten bolts, cables to ensure I dont get injured. The Gym floor or machines have never been cleaned since my arrival in Feb which is hygienically disgusting as I have only seen 3 people take towels in to wipe down the machines after use. When I asked the Pool guy who is looking after it why he informed me that he cleans it everyday by taking all the rubbish out.. Rooms - The rooms are big but very little maintenance with dents chips and electrical sockets coming out of the walls, my first week spent reporting faults to get fixed.... AC works but frequently stops due to the numerous power cuts you have, they do fix the issues when reported as they have an onsite team. WiFi The High-Speed Internet Access (HSIA) is a joke as they don't have a reliable service there has not been 1 week where the Wi-Fi has not worked for 1 or 2 days. Whenever there is rain it stops working and the excuses are its due to the weather although using hotspot on your phone it still works. They have an IT guy? Onsite who does his best but has no real authority to change anything but will bend over backwards to try and assist you whenever possible, many thanks. The way it is configured (Daisy Chained 3 blocks together) is ridiculous if you get a fault in one block then everyone after that is affected. When you report the fault, the answers they give are hilarious to 'its working over in reception'... to 'we have just upgraded and running tests, it will be fine in a few days'. I have been taken Wi-Fi speed tests since Feb and on Average the download is 1.2MBs and upload 0.85kB/s. This has been a huge issue especially when you are trying to do work or contact family members back home. Food - The menu has not changed since the beginning of the year and no matter what you order from Club Sandwich to Steak it all takes 50-60 mins...... certain al a carte food is often not available which reduces the choices even more. But plenty of local / traditional food if you like spice..... Breakfast is another farce with local buffet, but they also do an la carte which works out cheaper. Chefs do their best to accommodate but I would question if they are qualified as when I ordered poached eggs I first got a response of The chef does not know how to make them ??? and the second time they had been boiled that long that the yolk feel out solid. If you like meat cooked to varying degrees of texture, then unlucky as the only standard you get is well done even if you specifically ask for it to be med / rare. Only one chef has managed this so far. There are some good Chinese restaurants nearby the hotel which work out cheaper and bigger portions, they also have it at your table within 20mins. There have been some good times here, but I could count these all on one hand. Bits that make me chuckle since Feb..... I saw a rat and said to a member of staff 'there is a rat going into the kitchen, it has just ran past all the night staff sleeping on the floor' his reply ' Thats not a rat, we don't have rats. That was a simulator'... sitting by the pool I hear someone spluttering and chocking I look around to see a someone in the middle of the pool with his arms up in the air and sinking under the water. I dived in, helped him into the side along with another guest ensuring that he was ok. Where was the lifeguard...oh watching football on the TV and when I got out clothes soaking wet I asked why he did not save him, he said ' I was going to go but you already went in and got him'......No staff member went over to see if he was ok. It turns out he was a Senior Manager at the Site I am working at so I ended up sharing transport with him on a daily basis and every day he goes out of his way to say hi. Always brings a smile to my face. Overall if you stay for short periods of time then this is ok, if you stay longer then all the small things build up and it will drive you mad. As I said I am moving to another hotel now slightly more expensive but much much better customer service.

    Better than most

The food is great, mostly becasue you have options. Breakfast starts really early and that was a plus. Repairs were ongoing during my stay but they have some good rooms. Ask for Declan, he was nice during my stay!

Not the Best of Western !!!

I stayed at this hotel for 3 weeks .It has a feel that it had seen better days not in terms of facilities which were just okay ,but customer service and general expectations from the Best Western brand. The rooms are okay (ask for the newly renovated wing ) The buffet after 4 days became monotonous and the chef didnt cater for different palette especially as regards seasoning. The hotel has a good gym with equipments but as most things in this hotel needs upgrading (some of the machines were bad )and a dedicated gym trainer.A plus for the hotel is the pool one of the best I have seen in Benin ,large enough and well maintained. The housekeeping staff were another matter ,they need training thorough cleaning and decorum. There is a general need for customer service training across board. Also little things like air conditioned hallways were missing.Overall I would say very average but for hotels in Benin its probably second best after Protea . Quick tip ask for the non smoking section .Thank me later
