    Family holiday and special celebrations

Our immediate family, all 11 of us stayed at Marukita for 5 nights. We needed 4 rooms during their peak season..not an easy task to find. The hotel is very clean, comfortable and convenient and walkable to the shops, to the ski field shuttle buses and the long distance bus station. Even arriving via the train station was not an issue, as the hotel came to pick us up from the station in two vans for all of us and our luggage. We went with their meal options as we had young children with us and we were very glad we did so. We got breakfast for a good start to the day and after a long day skiing the last thing we wanted was to get dressed and go out to hunt for dinner. Even our request for a gluten free diet was originally declined due to their busy times were accommodated in the end-managed our expectations very well. The time was better spent relaxing and soaking in the onsen, young and old loved it. Maruyama san has been praised repeatedly by travellers but I have to say she is a treasure and always smiling at all hours of the day..nothing was too much for her. When she found out we were celebrating our 60th Birthday, she rushed out and got me flowers and my husband was given some local coffee. This was a really nice personal touch.

    Central and great onsen

We stayed here as the hotel we were staying at next door was full for our last couple of days (see my seperate review) so this hotel had a lot to live up to! It has seen better days and feels like a 1980s lobby and restaurant, the rooms are spotlessly clean as is the onsen but again all is very dated compared to other traditional hotels in Happo. The breakfast is fine, we opted for Japanese while our daughter had western. Both were adequate but nothing compares to what we had experienced at the previous hotel. The location is great, meters from all the restaurants, convenient to walk up through the forest to Wadano and also to the lifts.

    Couldn't Ask for More

If you are looking for a hotel that is centrally located, clean, onsen with amazing views, walk to Happo One, and most importantly the most accommodating hosts I have ever encountered this is your spot. I run over 50 vacation rentals and been in the hospitality business (hotel and resorts) for over 25 years and all I can say is the owners of this hotel take it to a whole new level. This is not a "job" to them. They picked us up last minute at the bus terminal, numerous recommendations, helped us schlep all of ski bags, super enthusiastic and friendly. One of the best hotel experiences I have had experienced. Super memorable.

    Enjoyable Stay

Friend recommended this quaint hotel for our trip to Hakuba and we came away quite impressed with the overall experience. The service at the hotel was very good even though they did not speak much English. Rooms were simple and clean & the tatami style beds were comfortable. Onsen came in handy as we soaked ourselves after a full day of snowboarding. The front desk lady even gifted us a small gift snack when we checked out. Will definitely consider staying here again in the future.

Fantastic and friendly staff. Great location for skiing

This is the 2nd time I've stayed here, both times for skiing. The rooms are traditional Japanese and very roomy. The highlight was the friendly staff who go out of their way to help you find restaurants, transport and advise on skiing conditions. Close enough to the slopes that you can walk and located in the Happo village which is cute with many restaurants to choose from. I chose the breakfast option.
