Lovely mountaintop experience!I was planning to spend a few nights in Eisenach so I could visit Wartburg Castle and take a day trip to Leipzig and Berghotel Eisenach was a lovely choice. My room was very comfortable, the wifi was reliable and the food at the restaurant was fantastic - I had dinner there one evening and the breakfast each morning was included in the price of the room. The only drawback for me was that I did not have a car so I had a long uphill walk each day, but the neighborhood had very interesting architecture and it was a safe area so it wasn't a big deal.

Breathtaking view of the WartburgIt was a bit hard to get to by car since it's on top of a mountain, Which can make it harder for older folks. I was able to drop off my mother by the door. However, it was all worth it since you have wonderful view of the Wartburg from there. We had a delicious dinner at the restaurant and watched the sun set behind the castle. The staff were very friendly and the room was neat and clean. If you want to have a view of the castle from your bedroom, you might want to request it when you book it. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Lovely Hotel with Great Staff & Beautiful ViewsPlease know I would go back to this hotel for the view and food alone. But its the whole package. The minute you walk in you will feel welcomed by the bilingual staff in charming, small hotel surroundings. Its not downtown Eisenach, but a short ride away and that is what makes it special. Our room was quite comfortable with a huge bathroom (although we would have liked a larger room). On a hill, the view of Wartburg Castle and surrounds was wonderful. Just keep in mind you will do your fair share of walking uphill if you end up parking in the lot below. They provide a very good buffet breakfast, but it was dinner that really made it special. We had rich pumpkin soup. My husband loved the weiner schnitzel, while I ate morsel of the lamb dinner. Reasonable prices made this hotel a real find.

Fantastic View. That is all.Yes, the view from our room was outstanding. We arrived as the sun was going down and the view of Wartburg Castle in the fading light was breathtaking. But, nothing else about this hotel can be recommended. The usable space in our room was almost entirely taken up by the bed. The room layout meant that we had a wide corridor in which had been placed a comfy armchair with a great view of the bathroom door. Fascinating though this was, I thought I might break up the evening by watching some TV but to do this I had to lift the chair over the drinks cabinet and squeeze it in next to the bed. This was the only chair in a twin room but the receptionist brought us a spare dining chair which we managed to squeeze in between the end of the bed and the wall. Next to the door was a large wardrobe space. I am sure that, with a it of thought, the layout off the room could be changed to make it more usable. Worse was to come when we went down to dinner. For a starter my partner chose wasabi soup. Now, we know all about wasabi. It is hot, but a small amount can be very tasty. The chef didn't seem to realise that a little goes a long way and the soup was inedible. My partner tried to persevere but after a few mouthfuls she had to give up. When the main course arrived she couldn't taste a thing. The wasabi was still burning her mouth as well as her stomach lining. A waitress came over to ask if everything was ok. Curiously, the reception, who spoke perfect English and who was now fulfilling the role of waitress was not assigned to our table even though we were the only English there, so we were unable to explain to our waitress what was wrong. My partner had earlier asked for Martini Rosso and got Martini Dry but we let that one pass because we couldn't remember the German for "red". We finally convinced this waitress that we needed to speak to someone who could speak English and this guy came over but we didn't get very far with him either. He said he could understand English but not speak it very well but, to be honest, he didn't seem to be comprehending what we were saying so, after several refusals, he eventually got the receptionist/waitress over so that we could explain the problem. Our main point was that the chef needed to know that he needed to adjust his recipe but it was a very slow process getting this across. As my partner couldn't eat anything the main course was taken away (and deducted from the bill) but the first waitress then came over with the desert menu! We said we just wanted the bill but 10 minutes later this had not arrived so we left, signing for our food on the way out. On the second day we had a late lunch in town and took a supermarket salad back to the hotel for the evening! A few other things to mention. There is a tablet in the room in lieu of a hotel guide but it was painfully slow and the "Information" tab was identical to the "hotel" tab which just told me that they could cater for wedding receptions. The only reason I know this hotel has a sauna is because of a tripadvisor review saying that is isn't very good! Our room was on the first floor. There is a lift but you still have to go up a small flight of stairs so no good for wheelchairs. There are a few parking spaces on the slope leading up to the hotel but most of the spaces are at the bottom meaning a climb of around 50 steps. In short, I wouldn't recommend staying there or eating there. It is such a shame that such a prime location is occupied by a hotel with such issues.

DisappointingOne of the main reasons we booked this hotel was because of the location and the conservatory restaurant with the views. On arrival when we asked about dinner we were told not possible - the explanation was delivered in German, which we don't understand - but gestures indicated we needed to walk to town to find somewhere to eat - back down the hill. This was a huge disappointment, as we set off later to walk we noticed a gathering having a business presentation - we assume this is why the restaurant could not accommodate us. Fortunately the weather had improved and the rain had stopped. We are reasonably fit so the walk wasn't as much of an issue as it could be for some guests. The rest of the stay was OK, but as we were only there for one night we spent very little time at the hotel as we had to go out for dinner.
