    Lovely family stay hotel

This hotel is at first will not impress you, however when you stay here youll begin to love every bit of it. The hotel has 17 rooms which are managed by some really nice people. Itll be bad for me to call them unprofessional but they are actually trying to help you except for the language barrier. Due to this language barrier you tend to get irritated clarifying everything. The super deluxe rooms are nice big and spacious. The Chef will make the best ala- cartel food on demand. The pool is really nice, not to forget the other hotel they have adjacent to the beach. Hotel bentota staff is really helpful. Free tuk-tuk rides to the other hotel were offered. Stayed from 24-26 Dec at this hotel with my family of 7 adults and 2 kids Good hotel, well priced and good place to sit back and relax !!!!!

    Horrible experience

The only good thing in the hotel is the size of the room. We booked 4 rooms in which no rooms a/c was working and no hot water in the bathroom. The staff was very very rude. Not good for family. Avoid

    Not worth the hype

Despite being hailed by locals as a 'luxury' hotel it definitely wasn't. You pay upfront for the hotel, which was fine, but unexpected. I asked about having laundry done and was told to that the service is not offered on site, and they would send it else where and THEN charge me. When I asked how much this would roughly be I was just told I would find out afterwards? (In the end I walked up the road and found a company to do it for me). They were VERY pushy about me using their private tuktuk. If I walked anywhere, which is what I usually do, I felt like I was heavily questioned. Likewise for the 'free' massage that is offered. It is essentially an advertisement for the full massage service. Again, this is understandable, but I had staff coming up to me constantly asking "When are you going to book a full massage?" which put me off. I was also put off by staff telling me the owner also has ANOTHER hotel that was fully catered. If I booked and paid for this hotel - why would I want another? The room was OK, a lot of bugs so but the television didn't work and the WiFi is only in public areas/if you sit just outside your room. Regarding the bugs - I have never, ever had so many bites in all my life. My back and legs were covered. This comes from a woman who had spent the previous months travelling around Nepal and India, working with street dogs, and had spent 3 weeks in Sri Lanka with barely a bite. On my first morning, although I had locked my door, a member of staff used their key to open my bedroom door. They realised their mistake but I did not feel very safe there and bolted the door. It was very heavily catered towards German visitors, so I often felt a bit left out. Breakfast was OK if you look past the bugs crawling all over the food. I opted for the dinner one night and it was awful. As a vegetarian there were no vegetarian options. I paid 1000 rupees for chips, salad, plain pasta and vegetables. The location isn't particularly great either. If you want to get to the main shopping/tourist areas you will need a taxi or tuktuk. If you want to lounge by the pool and top up your tan - this is the place to go. Honestly if I hadn't paid upfront I probably would have left early... which may explain why they do that. The only reason it is 'poor' and not 'terrible' is because of the few very friendly members of staff - in particular the man in the restaurant during breakfast who always made an effort to engage me in conversation.

    Hospitality at it´s best

We enjoyed two weeks in the hotel. The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful the whole time. Most of them spoke decent German or English, so communicating was no issue. They did everything to make our stay nice and also loved our little daughter. The beach is only a five minute walk away. There is also a tuk-tuk shuttle service to the Warahena Beach Hotel which has the same owner. They offer free sundbeds to customers of the Bentota Village Hotel. The hotel is well maintained, our room was only a couple of steps from the pool. The room was clean and spacious. The breakfast was basic but tasty, fresh fruit, pancakes, some toast. The food in general was alright but nothing special. However, staff was always content to prepare something. Th owner Kuma also offered several day trips. We went to Udawalawe National Park and it was great. Kuma took care of us the whole day organised everything and spoke excellent German. We can highly recommend booking a trip with him. We would also like to especially mention Poode the tuk-tuk driver. He does the shuttle service and will also take you around the surrounding area for a fair price.
