    Avoid Avoid AVOID!!

I was so excited after seeing the hotel my hubby had booked on that booking website (wish I had sneaked a glance here first!!) Looked beautiful Art Deco esque 1930s beauty and style... the reality is NOT the same - be warned! We blew our evenings budget on a queen room at 110 expecting something over and above the average 70 we had been spending. We arrived giddy and excited almost feeling like royalty as we walked up to reception and to the MOST unwelcoming, frosty and ignorant man I have ever encountered. No smile, no warmth, no thanks for parting with your hard earned wages.... The room was simply a let down with a (very) distance sea glimpse, clearly never renovated since 1930, just patched up. The room was fusty, tired and most disturbingly - dirty. Cob webs on windows, flecks of dirt (black bits) adorning the bath, a broken make up mirror which you couldnt adjust to use, furniture chipped, worn and in places ill fitting. I was initially relieved at seeing spare pillows in one of the ancient storage units until a quick smell and instantly I knew these pillows had NOT been washed. No facilities for drinks in the room although one hot bottle of water was there (since 1930 perhaps??) for us to share in the 27 degree heat on the top floor. I had the misfortune to go ask reception if I could get a cup of hot water to which his reaction was that Id asked him to go fetch me the Titanic from the seabed. Unfriendly and unhelpful Monsieur and I suggest if you continue in customer service you take some much needed training. Your actions and reactions on our arrival and departure and whilst asking for a cup of hot water (I would have paid!!!!!!) were incredibly sub standard. Perhaps my french wasnt fluent enough but even when our 110 were handed over and we left hurriedly the following morning, you monsieur were too far up your own backside to even say thank you. If this hotel pops up as an option to stay whilst in Trégastel - do yourself a favor an avoid it...

Five star building with 2 star rooms...

Just in short: Central but quiet position in the beautiful costline of Bretagne. Beautiful building with nice and stylish lobby and spaces, a pleasant garden with chairs and tables, really well kept. But entering the room you get the feeling you are in another hotel, in a much worse one... This was our second visit in this hotel and I have to admit that our first time experience (2 years ago) was better then now. The first thing which we realized that the hotel created a new parking area at the back of the building, so more free parking space. At the same time the entrance of the hotel and the reception area were moved also to the back of the hotel. What a mistake! This hotel has a beautiful front with a nice garden, the main lobby is so tasfully decorated and renewed...etc. And you enter from the back, you can not see anything from it. What about the importance of the first impression? It's already gone... We arrived at 2pm and found the receprtion area, lobby, bar..etc so everything empty, no person, like a ghost hotel. After a while I finally realized the cleaning lady at the window of a room. She helped us and called the boss to check in. Then the owner explained us that check in is normally from 3pm (not indicated in our booking confimation!) but booking writes 14.30. OK, but we booked directly at the hotel and last time when we arrived at 1pm we were greated with a smile and got our room, but not this time. Then entering our room came the final disappointment: Well, booked a standard room should be between 12-19 sqm but I think it was not even 10! There was a luggage holder inside the wardrobe but when we tried to open it we realized that there is no more place for it in the room. The bathroom is so small that if you entering, you can not move, you can step into the shower on the right or sit down to the toillett on the left but no move between the two. And the tiny shower space with the old shower curtain... not a good feeling. We travel a lot in France, so I have an idea about small rooms, but this was really really tiny! And all those old and worn-out furnitures, and also problems with the cleaness... So what a difference when you see the building with the lobby area and then this disagreeable, unpleasent room. OK, I understand that it was a standard room and the hotel has also better ones but please this building would deserve much more lovely rooms, and for all a renovation and new furnitures. This place has an incredily possiibility. If the rooms would get some respect and care and also guests could experince the hospitality and a litle more simle this could be a perfect hotel.
