Centenary visit to my Grandfathers battlefields. We used Pierrefonds as our base for travelling around visiting the sites of where my Grandfather and his Battalion fought in 1918. We also visited Clairiere de lArmistice near Compiègne which is highly recommended. The hotel setting is beautiful. Its an old style hotel with excellent service, great food and friendly staff. The room on 3rd floor was large with a good view of the Chateau and lake. No lift so not so good for older people. There is a ground floor room. Parking is free all over the town. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return.

One of the only restaurants open on Sunday eveningWe arrived in Pierrefonds on Sunday around 8:30 PM. Surprisingly, almost all the restaurants were closed. Hotel Beaudon restaurant was open. We had a choice of having dinner indoor or outside on the terrace along the lake. They had no nice view from their terrace so we went for the indoor room. We had the "dish of the day", a lamb piece with boiled vegs called "souris d'agneau", which was great. Then we had the red fruits Tiramisu, which all of us liked a lot. The service was good, the staff was friendly and not stiffy. A good experience.

Beautiful room, view and friendly staffWe're in Camelot, Mammy! Is what our 3 year old said. And she was right. A small village with romantic architecture dwarfed by the magnificent castle of Pierrefonds. Our hotel room is fabulous, I'm in bed writing this review from the room itself. You see, I'm able to sleep tonight because this room has a double bed and a single bed for my toddler...and the single bed has been separated from the rest of the room. This means, my darling little monster can fall asleep now because Mammy and Daddy aren't watching TV and attempting some adult time right before her eyes. This means, we get to enjoy the fantastic view of the castle. The Queen size bed. The large Bath and table on which mammy and daddy can partake of some wine. I'm so grateful for this room! Also, it's especially clean. The nice man on reception taught my daughter some French and there's a marvelous cake shop just across the road that sells excellent cakes and macrons where a lovely young gentleman will chat to you in English and French. My daughter loved him.

Magical and homelyStayed here breaking a drive down to Bordeaux. Booked on a whim - glad we did. Although you have to park a little down the road its worth the effort. Rooms excellent as is the breakfast but the best bit? The views and the restaurant! Views across the lake to the chateau and dinner al fresco on the lakeside was excellent. Good food, good wine and good company. Recommended.
