Road trip redwoodsHotel room was spacious and clean. Microwave, refrigerator, & safe rounded out the amenities. 20 minute drive to Eureka for shopping & more restaurants. Only complaint was the room doors make a lot of noise when they close. Mr. Roshoon ? ( not sure about spelling) helped me greatly when checking us out. He was able to get us a discount on room from gambling during our stay. About 1 hr 10 minutes to Prairie Creek state park where hiked Fern Canyon trail. Overall a very nice stay

Casino in the MountainsSmall but intimate. This casino located in the Ferndale area of Nothern California is a very clean and quiet casino. Try the Slots along the walls. Paid well for me.Best time of the year to go is in the fall around October. The weather is perfect then. Check out the town of Ferndale. Victorian styling and quaint shops. Good Luck.

Lots of money for a room in the middle of nowhereGood God, what a waste of money, LOTS of money. $175 per night during the virus crisis on a mid-week 2-nite visit. A new property very close to our destination of Ferndale. - From the highway, you see an enormous yellow building on top of a hill. Not a single architectural detail, just a big rectangular box. Inside, the place is beautifully decorated. - Requested a room in a quiet area, the room overlooks the gas station. Hotel probably 1/3 full, if that. And we get the gas station view. Left our luggage, back down to front desk. Different agent greets us, starts to look for another room, answers the phone and leaves us standing there for ten minutes while she answers many questions and takes a res. Original agent becomes free, we repeat about the quiet room, the one that doesn't overlook the gas station. Her reply: "Yes?" Like she doesn't understand what we're talking about, that kind of request is beyond her. Uh, have you ever looked at a map of your hotel? - New room is fine, spacious, lots of horizontal space for my stuff, refrigerator, microwave, gorgeous bathroom. Where's the closet? Oh, it's this narrow cupboard over here ... half of the interior is shelves. That leaves about 10" to hang up your clothes. Wonderful. - The new room doesn't overlook a gas station, but we can hear the TV in the next room which is on for HOURS. There is at least one small child stomping around above us. That's our error for not asking for a top floor room. You can't expect a front desk clerk to think of everything, can you? - We're thrilled that we can dine out in front of the casino in part of the driveway that's been roped off, lunch is terrific, our first restaurant meal since March. - Everyone here is friendly and helpful. Only two entrances to the entire property, both secured, makes people feel safe I guess. - I trot down to the ice machine. Sign says "ice at front desk". Whaaat? That's just stupid. If people are worried about the virus, they don't need to touch the ice machine. Leave the rest of us the convenience, not a trip downstairs, and a long wait for a bag of ice. For the kind of money we're paying for this hotel in the middle of nowhere, they should offer to deliver the ice to your room. - Did I mention that the Bear River people are really nice, all of them. - We return to the hotel about 4pm next day, and they've repaved the parking lot. There's no place to park, it's all roped off. I don't do valet parking, ever. We drive around to the back, park, and tromp all the way around and up the hill hauling our wine and supplies to the one entrance. - HVAC in the room is very powerful; but thermostat is psycho. We either freeze or there's no air circulation at all. Windows don't open of course. It's 67 outside and 75 in the room. Wonderful. - Beds have 4 pillows each ... all slabs of foam, just horrible. Two nights at this hotel are worth about $150 ... if they gave out coupons for the casino and a discount on meals. The Bear River could very easily be a 5* hotel with a few tweaks and some intense training for the front desk people. Perhaps they'll hire a GM with some hotel experience.

Going out after covidWe went out to the bear for sum gambling fun. Overall we had a good time and got sum burgers too take up to our room. The rooms are decent and we both won a little bit of money. I think we will definitely be going back again. Maybe the pool area will be opening up by then.
