  Lift needs serious upgrading

  4 stars for the hotel and 0 stars for the lift and guests. The lift takes forever and once we were unlucky and met with a group of tour and we waited for more than 30 minutes to use the lift! We ended the night early, thinking of retiring early for the day but this nonsense made us waste 30 minutes, all our takeaway food turned extremely cold and we stood there like fools waiting for the tour group to finish boarding the lift. Lifts to buffets were horrible too. Many guests in the hotel are extremely selfish. Once we finally got a lift and there was space for us to squeeze in the lift but before we reacted, the people inside pressed close and we had to wait for another 5 minutes for another lift! And we waited for one guy to finish his laundry and when he was done, he took the clothes one by one slowly. He washed a total of 5 clothing and put them into the dryer and turned the timing to 140 minutes for the 5 pieces of clothings! Seriously? He needed 140 minutes to dry his 5 pieces of clothings? In the end, we came back 30 minutes later and took our laundry back to the room and went up again to wait when the next dryer's time was up in well, 100 minutes time. I would seriously suggest changing the laundry to coin operated so that guests won't misuse this.The hotel is kind enough to provide free washing machines and washing powder yet the guests are so selfish. We didn't set the timer to the max when it was our turn and the clothes were still wet because we washed quite a lot of clothes. There were people queuing for the dryer even at 11.30pm so we took the clothes back and came down the next morning at 5.30am to dry again. Service of the staff is excellent. They are friendly and helpful. This hotel is just above the night market but no noise at all from the room. I love Feng Chia night market because the food are really nice. The room is clean and big and the beds were huge too. They have a separate area for showering and bathing. They have hot water at level 8 near the laundry room and also in their buffet restaurant so no need to boil water in the room. Breakfast buffet wasn't fantastic. If you go down after 8am, be prepare to wait for a table. For the first morning, there wasn't much food, more like taiwan chinese breakfast but on the second morning, they changed the menu and they had nuggets and sunny side up. It was also on the second morning when I got fed up with the lift and asked the staff if I could take e stairs to my room level and he said I could. So if I come to this hotel in future, I know I don't have to be like a fool waiting for the slow lift. But please, Beacon, please really do consider upgrading the lousy lifts!

  Excellent location

  Excellent location! Fengjia night market is just a stone throw distance, accessible to all the cafes, restaurants or even those famous food stalls such as stinky taufu, sausages bun, mian xian etc Another good thing about this hotel is comfortable room, clean, nice bed. Just one thing they may need to improve is the pillow. Its too soft! Staying for 2 nights in this hotel, overall very satisfying!

  Beacon Hotel is close by the university, the Feng Chia night market

  Beacon Hotel offers comfortable lodging, the room is bright, clean, mini-fridge, breakfast in the morning, coffee or tea and cookies available in the lobby, complimentary laundromat on the 8th floor, but the clothes dryer wasn't hot enough to dry the clothes. The breakfast hot food was only lukewarm such as their congee.

  Reasonably priced hotel in a good location

  Beacon hotel at Taichung is about 20 minutes taxi ride from Taichung High Speed Rail station. I've stayed in a suite room and it is spacious with a bathtub and a king size bed. Although the TV is big, it lacks video on demand channels and the quality of the TV reception is bad. Resolution of the HD channels are worse that VCD quality! But unless you need to be always in the room, such shortcomings can be excused. The receptionists are polite but quite lack the initiative to engage with guests. I've asked for directions to a place of interest and all I got was a google map on the phone telling me the direction! This is something I could have done myself. I would have expected information such as where to take the transport to the place or how much it takes by public transport etc. The lobby at level 1 has no one manning the counter but access to the rooms requires room card by tapping it on the panel in the lift. Check in and breakfast are at level 12. The one and only washing machine is at level 8 and you can forget about having your turn unless you have the time to sit on the sofa provided to wait for your turn. There are two dryers but good luck! The hotel is very conveniently located at the centre of Feng Jia night market. 24 hours McDonald's is just downstairs. Wifi is provided and the speed is decent. Overall, Beacon hotel is recommended for a short stay if you want quick access to amenities.

  More than a basic hotel

  Conveniently located very near to Fengjia Night Market. Its not a big night market but it has the usual chicken cutlet, bubble tea and sweet potato balls just to name a few. My room was two double beds. Toilet was clean and bright with clean towels and spacious. Hair dryer was available. Basic amenities like toothbrush toothpaste and cups are provided. Variety of coffee and tea also provided plus electric kettle, cups and spoons also provided. Shampoo and shower gel provided. The shampoo is good. One of the few hotels where the shampoo is so good you don't even need a conditioner afterwards. Air conditioner and lighting for the room is adjusted using the telephone. Please refer to photo. Breakfast variety is good. Quite a big breakfast area with baby chair.
