Basic but comfortableChose this hotel when attending a conference on a tight budget. Room was basic but space to work at the desk and a good size bed. Air conditioning worked well which was good with warm weather. Location great for conference centre but needed to use public transport to get to most of the main sights of Lyon - luckily well located for buses and public transport was really easy to use. Hotel was quiet even with a room by the lifts. Overall very good value for money but no frills.

Bare bones: OK for a solo overnight, not for tourist visitors. The 20 euro fare for the taxi from the station to B&B Hotel Caluire took us through grim graffiti-marked streets, and when we arrived at the B&B hotel in a gritty neighbourhood we were wondering had we made a mistake coming to Lyon. On entry into the room, the stale atmosphere evoked a sense of depression. It's a non-smoking hotel but it sure seemed like nicotine in the air. This is a very basic hotel, like a 2 star Travelodge or student accommodation. No bottles of shampoo or soap (we bought soap at a pharmacy), no glasses in the bathroom. No drawers for the clothes, you have to live out of your suitcase. It's a caution on how to read TA reviews. I had seen mostly Excellent and Very Good scores and the reviews looked good. But these must be all from business people staying one night for the Lyon Conference centre. The CC is about 10 minutes away over the pedestrian bridge. A small room occupied mainly by the bed and one hard chair by the desk. The sleep was quiet, no street noise. Reception could not provide a hair dryer, so it's quite unsuitable for more than a one night stay, so it's not for tourist visitors. It's also far away from any tourist sights (except the Contemporary Art Museum) and the old town. We cancelled and moved to a central hotel for our last two nights. The breakfast room was crowded and supplies ran out so we had to wait for replenishment. Basic orange juice, bread, cereal. The hot food was unattractive: mostly fatty bacon and a strange yellow custard-like slop that looked nothing like real scrambled eggs. It's cheap at 90 euro per night B&B for two, but we have stayed in better hotels and guesthouses for that price elsewhere.

Pretty ordinary but reasonable value for money.Reasonable value for the money. Excellent and secure parking, which they promised. However, the room was very small and had no essentials, such as kettle or fridge. Surely a little extra spent on things like that would help secure a better review?

Budget InnWe were on the 1st floor. Sort of a Motel 6 feel to the place. It was cheap and clean. Location is not great, as it was not near a metro line. There is a bus that stops right out front that goes to the city center in about 5 minutes, however. We were there for the Woman's World Cup games, so the rate was a little higher than normal. Breakfast was sufficient. The neighborhood was just so-so. A couple of places to eat, but I'd recommend going to the city center and then eating there or walking over to the old town. Our tub was blocked, and it took them about 12 hours to fix it, but tey did. If you can afford it stay near the city center or a metro line.

Rude staff, no parking, shabby hotelThis was a shockingly bad experience. 1) Despite many free spaces we were denied parking 2) The staff were rude and shouted at us after keeping us waiting on check in 3) The mirror in the lift was kicked in, there was broken glass strewn around 4) The room was poky, cheap and nasty. This hotel experience ruined our evening. So bad that we left immediately and drove 5 hours home. Also note that I gave feedback on the check in process through the Expedia survey. The management then contacted me twice to defend their position and argue further. There are other budget hotels to choose from that much be better than this scum hole.
