  Wonderful traditional hotel

  We stayed for one week at end June on HB package in a superior room. We asked for a quiet room and got just that at the rear of the hotel, spacious and comfortable. No balcony or view from our room other than rear of another hotel, but that didn't bother us. Location of the hotel is in centre of the village with easy access to cable cars and buses. The hotel has very traditional decor and is a gem: it could only be in Austria, whereas some of the other expensive "modern" hotels in the village could be anywhere. It is small and intimate, Food is excellent and staff are very friendly and helpful. The owner/ manager talks regularly to guests at dinner to check everything is ok. The hotel's Landhaus Annexe a few minutes walk away from the main hotel has a wonderful landscaped garden which we visited several times during our stay and used the swimming pool there. (in addition to the indoor pool in the main part of the hotel). The Joker card offering free use of local cable cars and buses was great for exploring the area, which was lovely. Our visit coincided with a major international mountain bike week, which was fascinating to observe as riders took their bikes to the mountain tops via the cable cars and road down at high speed on special exclusive (no pedestrians allowed) cycle tracks. We had a wonderful week and would unhesitatingly recommend Hotel Bauer to anyone wanting to stay in an intimate, very hospitable, traditional Austrian alpine hotel with loads of gemuetlichkeit.

  Price-quality is bad. Owner is impolite. Received wrong room.

  Upon arrival me and a friend were told we had an upgrade. The upgrade was a appartment 200m down the street with no facilities so we didnt want it. Changing to the hotel was difficult but eventually we got a room with 1 bed. We asked for another bed because this was what it says on the booking site (1 sleeping sofa and 1 double bed). We were told they would try to arrange it but they never came back at it. The breakfast was okay but not 4 star worthy. The staff was grumpy but not impolite. The room was clean and the pool is very nice. When we checked out the owner asked us to pay the amount which we already had payed. She was VERY IMPOLITE AND EVEN RAISED HER VOICE. When we told her that we would write a bad review she offered us a discount. When i look back at the confirmation mail of my booking and what they have on the booking page i see that I booked a superior double room and got a standard. I payed 1085 for 3 nights. This simply is rediculous, dont do it. My experience of Saalbach was good. Hotel was nice, but never 4 star worthy and never worthy the amount they charge. The owner is not customer friendly.

  Great location great facilities great staff

  Great location bang in the middle of saalbach and perfectly located for the three main ski lifts up the mountain making it possibly the best in the village. Staff lovely led by Sylvia who works tirelessly to ensure guests have a great time Facilities ideal particularly the spa for the fair weather skiers in our group. Food superb too and happy to cater for all inc vegan and vegetarian options on daily menus Very impressed overall

  It was very good albeit a little quirky

  Stayed one week whilst on a skiing holiday. Had a nice room on the 3rd floor facing the rear. I noticed the radiators were never warm or hot neither the bathroom towel rail. I did mention this but was never resolved. The hairdryer didn't work either. Exactly the same problems in other room where friends were staying. Apart from that all was good. Enjoyed the bar and restaurant every evening. The food was excellent although I wasn't over impressed with the fondue/buffet night. All other nights the food was enjoyed by all. You can have tap water if you order wine. The wines prices, we thought, were ok. Breakfast is good with the hot food cooked to order. Shame, like so many places now, you can't get decent orange juice. Laura provided the most excellent service every time. She is a real credit to the hotel. The other young waiter is also good. Used the spa and pool which is worth visiting and very clean. Thank you for your hospitality.

  Fantastic hotel

  Cosy and friendly hotel in the heart of Saalbach. The hotel is well positioned in between the 3 ski lift locations. We stayed in a superior room on the first floor which was spacious and near the spa facilities which were excellent (and always quiet). Breakfast was varied with a good selection including freshly prepared omelettes. Dinner was excellent with a different substantial meal every night - ours favourites were the duck breast and roast meat evening. Lovely presented hotel with excellent service to match. Special mention to Laura our waitress each evening who was very friendly and attentive. Thanks for a great stay.
