Shady Management Tried to Keep My Money

Stayed one night. The room was fine, very cold upon arrival, windows heating only. Room warmed up nicely, but bathroom freezing the entire time. Nice hot shower though. My issue was with customer service. I reserved our room, and paid, through hotels.com the day before we were set to arrive. Upon arrival, the signage stated that a $50 deposit was required for the key, which was fine. However, we were charged a $90 deposit. That's fine too, it's just a deposit. When our card was ran, it declined, so we made a cash deposit of $100 American and was given $10 Canadian back. The whole thing was a bit confusing, but we had just driven 4 hours and I was battling a sinus infection so figured it was just me. Once in our room, I checked my account and that is when I found our card had been compromised and someone went on a spending spree and cleared out our account - yay. I also noted that the charge for our room at the Barrie Motel had already gone through successfully the day before. I wanted everything to be crystal clear so I went back to the office to make sure the money we just gave was in fact a deposit and would be returned upon check out, because I was given nothing stating this. I was assured that was the case. Lo and behold, checkout the next day was not simple. The man (same one we checked in with) was prepared to give me no money back, telling me that the $90 I gave him was to pay for the room. Which I still don't understand, because the charge for the room was not even that much. He pulled out a credit card receipt for $100 that I'm sure was fake (remember - mine declined!) and said that was for the deposit and he would refund it to my account. I told him that he could not do that since I had cancelled my card with the bank (due to the fraud thing) and the transaction would not go through. I also reminded him that I gave him $90 CASH so what he was proposing made absolutely no sense. He then tried to tell me that the cash I gave him was for the room and I said absolutely not, I paid for the room. He then tried to tell me I booked through expedia and that they do not accept payment. I told him no, I in fact booked through hotels.com, had a confirmation email saying so, and I pulled up my bank account on my phone and showed him the charge that clearly stated "Barrie Motel" for the price of the room. At this point I was pretty upset. With having the added frustration of someone having cleared out my bank account, the cash I had given him as a deposit was the money I needed to be able to drive home. Finally it seemed that I was getting through to him when another woman walked in to check out. But then AGAIN, he attempted to refund money to my card and not give the cash. I made one more argument and he finally went and got the original $100 American that I had given him, probably only because another customer came in and heard my whole story (I gave him the $10 back - American as that's all i had left). I would have gladly paid an extra however much to stay somewhere and not deal with this headache. The convenience was that it was close to the concert venue we were going to. Actually, while at the concert, a man approached us and said he had seen us at the Barrie Motel, and he was staying there also. He said he did not care much for his room, he was on the opposite side from us, so it sounded as if some rooms have been updated an others have not. I would stay far away from this place, based on principle alone. Some shady business going on here.

I sleep better in my car

Stayed there for a night with my gf. The whole night there were people blasting music and jumping around in the room above us, as well as several car alarms going on and off throughout the entire night. For 120$, the bed was definitely not comfortable. We left early to park somewhere and sleep in the car. Upon bringing our complaints to the owner, he did little other than offer us 20$. I honestly sleep better on the side of the road in my car. Save yourself the trouble and keep on driving.

    Clean Spacious Room

This property was not the Holiday Inn, but the room was clean, spacious and newly renovated. This is a mom and pop type of motel that we rented last minute as we just needed a place to rest for the night. You feel like you are driving into an industrial area but it is 1 block off Dunlop in Barrie. The exterior was a little older looking but surprisingly the room was newly renovated. Probably new drywall, painted and new counter in the room with a new microwave and bar fridge. The bathroom was spacious and new tile and marble. The television was wall mounted and several stations. The bed was clean and new. The pillows were a little thin and the bar of soap was the size of a quarter and no other condiments. The room had a chair in the corner but no other furniture. I seldom use the dressers in a motel and was not there long enough to do that. Overall we were happy with the room and you did have that clean feeling.

Clearly scammed by the owner - with mediocre rooms.

WE WERE SCAMMED!! We booked a room at this motel for New Years eve through Booking.com. On the day of the reservation, we called just to make sure our room was ready, and we were informed that the motel never received the booking from Booking.com, and they had no reservations under our name. We were offered the same room for $129 instead of the $89 room we originally booked. Having no other choice, we accepted the more expensive room and drove to the motel. Upon arrival, the owner pulled out printed sheets with the booking.com logo, our credit card information, the date of our booking and everything! Clearly, the owner had received the booking but decided they could get more money out of us. The room itself was mediocre, with poor water pressure in the bathroom sink. Will not be returning here again!

Five day's in the Tower Motel

I stayed at the Barrie Motel / white tower for five days during some unexpected home renovations. I will break my review down in three categories Posative, negative and opportunitys... The good: The price is one of the lowest around town, There is plenty of parking and the location of the motel is key as it's close to downtown without the hectic traffic, The cleaning staff was courteous always insuring I had what fresh toiletries. The room had a small fridge and microwave that came in handy. The cable was adequate .. The negative: The motel has a reputation of housing some of Barrie undesirable clientele. Sadly it didn't take long for this reputation to live up to it's name with loud party's and heavy drug use being evident more then once I was woken up by the sound of a parting, fighting or other sounds. Almost always stating at 02;00 Twice I found what I guess was a crack pipe out side my door... The bed was rock hard and what they passed off as pillows were flater then the one I was issued during my time in the Army. The most inconvenience I had to endure was the wifi as much of my work is online the internet speed resembled the dial up speed I experience as youth. opportunitys to the owner there are sign that you are making renovation which is a promising. The first move you need to make is to change reputation although the building desperately needs to be renovated the kind of clientele and the nefarious actions they bring to your building needs to change before a freesh coat of paint...... Some other sugestion a coffee maker in the room, Taking the barbed wire of your fence, and yes better Internet . For familys this is not for you
