Overall a Good Hotel and close to the oceanStayed there one night because the Center Hotel was fully booked. We checked in after dinner. But the check-in procedure is something I've never seen before. Let me describe. Our local friends called the Baohai Hotel to book rooms only few hours before we checked-in. So after dinner around 9PM, our local friend took us to the hotel. Instead of going to front desk, we went straight to 4th (or was it 7th) floor. When the elevator doors open, there is a small desk in front of the elevator. A man was sitting there. So our friend talked to him, and he called 2 female attendants out to lead us to our rooms (I traveled with my business friend from Korea, so it was 2 of us, 2 rooms). The 2 female attendants, in uniform, opened the room with the keys they had. Very briefly introduced me to the room, like light switches, A/C switches....etc. Then she takes out the portable hand-held credit machine, ran my credit card thru, and I paid for the room right there. There was no hotel statement other than the credit card receipt. I have never seen this kind of check-in. I believe my friend paid a higher rate, but you can use part of that rate at the KTV downstairs. But we were too busy working that night so we didnt go to KTV (yikes....) I recall with all the lights turned on, the room was still a bit dark, and the bed a bit on the hard side, but it didnt bother me. Room was mid sized, modern looking. Breakfast was good enough, but showed me something else I've not seen. They have this automatic lid opener thing. For example, if the sausages are in this pan with lid, when you step in front of it, the lid automatically opens up. It senses your motion. Its interesting, though probably not really necessary. In terms of location, I dont recall much because we went at night. But it is pretty close to the ocean. I vaguely remember some rooms have ocean view, or breakfast area has ocean view. But I am not sure if its as convenient as the Center Hotel, where there are restaurants and a small night market outside. Of course would have liked to see the KTV, but didnt. Went to KTV few times at Center Hotel so I wanted to compare. I would recommend this hotel as well, but maybe Center Hotel is a bit more convenient.

WarningDump! No food, no service. Staying here was one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made traveling. Restaurant dirty enough it wouldn't pass a casual health inspection. Don't go near the kitchen! Not a clean table in the place to sit and eat, if you were brave enough to eat the garbage. At least I lost some weight staying here. I didn't eat for two days. Take a shower in the moldy bath tub while water collects at your ankles because the drain is plugged. The mini bar fridge was unplugged, the beer was warm. Ordered a room service beer, it was warm too! I asked if I could have a cold beer, "bing peejou", they told me they didn't have cold beer. I walked down to the "bar". It was closed. The bed was like sleeping on the sidewalk it was so hard. Frankly, I would sleep on the sidewalk before I'd ever stay at this place again. Anyone who would rate this hotel anything but terrible didn't stay in the same hotel I did or has such low standards that they probably felt at home. Be warned, this is a disgusting dump.

Exceptional serviceThe hotel is very well appointed, very comfortable and clean. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. There is a choice of three restaurants, including a la carte and a buffet (although there is a very strong leaning towards seafood). On the basement level there is a KTV. The hotel is located close to the sea and in a seemingly quiet area. The rooms are large and very comfortable, with all the comforts one would expect. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

Perfect location near the exhibition complexIf you are participaiting at the nearby exhibition centre this is the best place to stay. I strolled down the waterfront promenade for 20 minutes, therefore avoiding organising taxis for a short trip. They don't like short trips and really let you know it. The hotel is clean enough, food is OK and the staff is present (that's all I can say); English is not their fortè. Some of them do try, some don't even bother. But if you get hold of the one women that does speak English she will be extremely helpful. I will stay again at the Baohai.
