NEVER AGAIN! Uncomfortable, warm outdated rooms.I booked two rooms for 3 nights at this hotel. The rooms were very warm and uncomfortable. A/C systems did not cool as they should and would not power up from 10am-3pm everyday. Worst of all, the establishment did nothing about it when mentioned. The service during dinner time was slow and inconsistent as we were constantly waiting for drinks and to have empty dishes cleared. Overall an unsatisfactory experience. We will never be back!!

Gorgeous room, great hotelWe had a large corner room on the 5th floor. Room 1522 was gorgeous and huge. A welcoming entrance way, a large and small tatami room with dividing doors and a wooden bath - all overlooking the river and township below. We received complimentary green tea, little radish cakes and a platter of local snacks which included sweet tasty seaweed, miso burdock and pickles. When we went out for dinner the staff made up our 5 futons and left a jug of iced water. Extra yukata were delivered within moments of our request. We actually tried to purchase some at the hotel shop but it seems they are only for rent. The onsen facilities are just lovely and certainly worth a visit in their own right. Breakfast was varied, tasty and plentiful. The staff were smiley and helpful and gave us a great waving send off.

Great futon roomThe room was beautiful, well warmed, and the bath was fabulous. The building has a somewhat ghibli atmosphere my French friends liked a lot. The free shuttle from the station is pretty helpful too. The morning buffet is delicious and has a lot of variety

Big ryokan near beautiful west coast of JapanLiked best: - Awesome Japanese ryokan experience - The interior is big, well decorated and allows for walking - There are several hot spring bathes (Onsen) inside, all of them fairly big - The very high service level toward our very young kid (<1yo) - There is a kid play space - The village outside with the river is also beautiful and worth walking Liked least: - Nothing noteworthy

Our reservation was a mess BUT no fault of the wonderful hotelThus beautiful place with excellent service really helped us when Bookings.com website gave us incorrect information. First let me say that the place, the spa the ambiance are just beautiful and the associated town is Historic with huge temples surrounded by perfectly manicured parks we were there for Fall leaf season and it was Spectacular. The kaiseki dinners were fantastic Now for the problems Like many hot spring places the hotel is a bit isolated so you need to have dinner in the hotel or do without. In this case we booked two identical nights on the Bookings web site but when we got there Bookings had only passed to the hotel one night dinner payment. This is significant since these many course dinners run $100 per person when purchased separately from the room. After wasting hours on the phone trying to resolve this we finally had a bowl of ramen each and called it a night. For Japan reservations in onsen/ryokan/inn type hotels the international web sites MUST be very specific about meals and inclusive amenities.
