Amazing Resort! The most comfortable resort I ever stayed in Papua. It is placed in the strategic locations where you can see the Baliem Valley and surrounding area where the Dani or Hubula tribe live. Lovely and comfortable room with the unique Papuan design architecture. Helpful and caring service from all the staff especially from Mr. Madi, GM of this resort. Delicious breakfast and fresh fruit were served during our stay. I recommend you to stay at least 2-4 days in this places so you can more enjoy and see the surrounding area and the beauty and uniqueness of Dani's Life's.

Best in BaliemThis resort is perched high on a hill, overlooking the Baliem Valley. It has commanding views that stretch for miles. It's about 40 minutes northeast of Wamena, up a bumpy road that's tough to drive. But the payoff is worth the effort. The main building / reception / restaurant is airy and spacious, suitable to large groups and small gatherings. Food is simple, tasty and in large portions. There's a "bar", but it doesn't serve alcohol, as per Papua laws. Rooms are large and comfortable. Beds are big, linens are good. The bungalows are all wood and stone, with a big veranda and great views. There's no AC, but it doesn't get hot enough to worry about. There's plenty of local bugs around, but the hotel provides anti-mosquito devices. Staff are mostly local people, all very friendly and pleasant to work with. No WiFi, no TV's. Bring your own source of entertainment. I'd most certainly stay here again.

the best address in WamenaOur group had a fabulous time in Baliem Valley Resort. Everyone from the dining room, to the kitchen, to the drivers, to the front desk, especially Mr Madi, did their best to make sure we were looked after. The food was delicious, and the choices were superb. We had crayfish one night as a surprise. The group had a private visit to one of the villages, and Mr. Madi came along to help us. The cabins were very comfortable and the views were stunning. Some of the rooms were quite far away, but Mr. Madi made sure those who were not so mobile, had rooms closest to the reception. We enjoyed our visit in September; although it rained, it did not derail our program. Regards, KZFung

Great location, attentive staff and excellent tour guidesWe visited the resort for three nights during a longer trip with the company of the owner to the Korowai region in the lowlands, which was a very good overall experience, for which the stay in the resort was a perfect starting phase. The location is great outside the hectic atmosphere in Baliem, which has turned into a city with motocycles etc. You can easily explore the countryside around the hotel by yourself before or after the daily excursions. You'll see plenty of nature and friendly locals, which seem to have good relations with the resort (many work there). The resort as such is full of artefacts from the Asmat region and the bungalows offer all you need (electricity, warm water, comfortable beds, good linen, since it can be cold at night in Baliem, etc.). The road leading to the hotel is in bad shape and takes a while, but the cars are good enough to reach the hotel safely - and the trip is worth is, since I found the surroundings of the hotel as good (if not better) as some of the more traditional trekking destinations in Baliem. We also did a "pig feast" near the hotel, which was an amazing experience and felt very authentic. Highly recommended! One last remark: We visited during a time of civil unrest in Papua during August and September 2019 and I was quite concerned beforehand. During the transfer to the airport in Jayapura, we saw some buildings, which had been burnt down, but NOT near the resort. To the contrary: Due to its remote location, it felt 100 % safe there. Don't be distracted from visiting the resort if you read about the political disputes surrounding Papua. The resort is not affected!

Much in need of repair, falsely advertised, but probably the best you can do in West PapauYou have very limited options in West Papua and this is probably the best resort available. However, it is largely false advertised which incorrectly sets it's guest expectations. If they would only update their web site to more accurately represent what they offer I would gladly give them more stars. We stayed there 3 days but only had running water 2 of the 3 days. While their food is not bad you can actually do much better in town for half the price. And while they advertise a bar with a signature cocktail it is just for show and they have never actually offered anything from the bar according to our guide. It's just a lie to lure in customers. This may have been a great resort 10 years ago but now is very much in need of repair. The road to get to the resort is also very much in need of repair as it takes over 30 minutes to get here from town. Having said all that you are paying for the view. This place does have very nice views and that is the single truth on their website. I guess we were glad we stayed there but clearly felt lied to and over charged. Which reminds me to say that you should check your bill as they tried to charge us double for our meals. They pretended to not understand us but fortunately we had a guide that was able to make it crystal clear that they were cheating us and they finally admitted it was a mistake on their end. Set correct expectations and they will have much happier customers.
