Mixed Impressions, But Lovely LocationWe are a NY family with two children (ages 6 & 12) who visited this resort with friends from Germany for one week. The location is great - within an hour or two from ferries and major airports, near a train line, and a short drive from the small city of Follonica, which has many restaurants and shops. And the coastline in this part of Italy has been smoothed out somewhat, resulting in lovely sandy beaches. The reception desk staff was very helpful, and multi-lingual. They let us choose from two units and let us visit each before choosing. One was near the reception building, newer, and in better repair. The other was next to the beach, older, in need of some repairs, and had kitchen cabinets with a strong odor of mildew when opened. But it was also right next to our friends' unit, only a 1 minute walk to the sand, and had assigned beach chairs and an umbrella right next to our friends. We chose this 2-bedroom unit for its proximity to our friends. Our children's bedroom had a burned-out lightbulb, which we were told more than once would be fixed...but never was. We requested one extra bath towel, which we were told more than once we would get "within an hour", but never got. So my impression of their maintenance and housekeeping services is not good. We shopped at the onsite market each day, which was well-stocked and offered a variety of foods and other necessities. On our first day we were looking for sand toys for our children, and spoke with the shopkeeper about renting some. (We didn't want to bring them home, nor throw them away at the end of our week.) There was nothing available for rent at that time. But the next day she approached us and showed us some "rental" packages she had created, each with a variety of sand toys and play things, for a very reasonable price. Our experience here was very positive. We ate at both the poolside restaurant and the beach restaurant multiple times, and were pleased by the variety and quality of foods offered at each. Service was good as well. And the ocean views from the tree-shaded tables at the beach restaurant were quite lovely, and a nice respite from the excessive heat! However, by the second day we began driving to Follonica for dinner, rather than being limited to these two restaurants at night. In comparison with hotels and resorts in the US, this one did not have a lot of "extras" to offer. But taken in context with its location in Europe, and the family/child-friendly food, staff, toys, pool, and beach, it was overall a fine place to spend a holiday.

Great location, one day a score of 10 the other day a score of 3Great location, especially when you have a beachfront appartment. If you stay near the swimming pool appartments you have to walk for a bout 100-200 meters and you have to go through a safety gate. The appartments are simple, good size and with a good shower. The beds are so-so: could need some new matrasses from better quality. The staff at reception is great: very welcoming and helping. The staff at the supermarket is not customer frinedly, we went next door were there were people that were happy to help you. The staff at the beach bar was ok, one day friendly, one day a bit in a working ode. The food was great: we went every day for lunch and diner. The one thing that was not goo is the noise from next door resort: aerobics at 10 am on the beach with loudspeakers on volume 100. Karaoke at night until 11.45 pm with screaming Italians. We mentioned and the reception called rightaway but what can they do. The noise only is distrurbing for the first appartments we understood... If new be matrasses, if friendly staff in supermaket and better agreement with the neighbours: it would be a 10! Now it is a 7....

Beachfront accommodationWe were here several times. We love the closeness of the sea, the beach. The accommodation is a bit outdated, there is a bigger renovation and modernization. It's a good starting point: you can go all the way around Tuscany, go hiking, it's all close. The service is right for us. The restaurant is delicious with tuna steak. If you want, you can take the pizza. The train is very close to the inner apartments.

Totally unsuitable for young kids, entirely lacking basic safety features and qualityWe spent a week with grandma, 19 months daughter and myself (mom). How people can write this is perfect for children is beyond me. First floor terraces have no gates preventing toddlers from walking (and falling) down the stairs, electrics and cables in the garden were accessible by anyone, the garden was covered in birds foul, and access to the beach is adventurous, with steep hill and no indication of buggy/ wheelchair access. We had the crazy idea of eating at the restaurant and bar to avoid cooking, and were stuck with defrost food at lunch and same pasta and fish/ meat in the evening; no way we could have steam Vegs for my daughter as a variation from grilled ones or french fries or salad. Such a shame, considering the amazing location; case in point of Italys tragic lack of management and waste of unique strengths. Will never set foot there again and will discourage anyone who asks for an opinion.
