We didn't feel welcome at all !

With a couple of friends we booked a bunch of rooms and apartments. I know that this hotel is not used to bigger groups like this, this is a place you go as a couple or with your family. Nevertheless we tried to adjust as much as possible and don't upset anyone with anything. Don't get me wrong, the hotel is really nice, the rooms are beautiful and the breakfast is perfect ... but the way we got approached by the Staff/Manager was totally unprofessional. The total for the rooms was something about 2.000 and the manager probably got worried that we could leave without paying, even though he had all the info a hotel needs. We booked from Friday to sunday but already at saturdays breakfast he decided, that we would need to pay the full amount right now! I told him that i will take care of everything and come back to him. I wasn't even finished with my breakfast when he came a second time to let me know, that we would really need to pay now. Kind of upset i got my credit card, which wasn't working. I talked to my bank and they told me that they are doing a server update right now and i everything would be cleared within the next 12 to 15 hours and i would easily be able to pay within the next morning. The Manager didn't accept this, so we got another credit card. This one didn't work either, so we got another card which finally worked. The way he handled the whole situation was really unprofessional and awkward. At first hand he even started to trim the bushes around our table to make us feel even less welcomed while we were having breakfast. I don't know if he maybe made some bad experiences with bigger groups, but that doesn't give you permission to treat other guest as welcomed as we felt. Hotel itself was very nice, the hospitality and service was just horrible. if the hotel or someone answering this rating don't want to take responsibility for their actions or even deny that this happened, i have videos of the incident when we were sitting outside. First and last time i was staying here.

    Family mini-holiday

The location is perfect, beach easily accessible by foot or bike in two directions (one with lots of stairs, one just uphill), town a short walk away (1-2 minutes) parking sufficient, even with our bike carrier in tow. The room was sufficient but not what I thought I had booked- our studio was upstairs, not ground floor, and the small spiral stairs outside are not ideal for those with mobility issues( me) or the very young (my toddler) (note management was accommodating and offered to allow us to switch when a ground floor became available but I see no point in moving luggage resettling after two days - but they did do their best to try to mitigate the issue). The beds were comfortable, pillows, plentiful, towels sufficient, furniture fine.. smallest TV I have ever seen in a hotel, but ok.. The shower is lovely, and clearly recently updated, but if all of the rooms have not yet been updated I would suggest to the management to choose a slightly smaller vanity- the vanity size was ample but with it being so wide it impacted on the bathroom as the waste basket was not accessible due to the vanity size, it made the toilet and shower areas a bit cramped as well. Further missing from the bathroom (in my opinion) was a soap dish or little basket (perhaps hanging from the shower taps)- placing soap and shampoo on the shower floor is not handy.. but again, good shower and even our toddler enjoyed it and she is not a shower fan. In the kitchen, the small fridge/freezer worked surprisingly well, with the freezer compartment actually capable of freezing something (often times these little freezers do not work!). The stove/oven was older but functional and appreciated. As it had been thoroughly cleaned numerous times we could no longer read the settings on the stove and it was a real guess as to whether it was turned up high or low- the first night dinner took a bit longer than usual...a microwave would have been handy- perhaps when the oven needs to be replaced the management could get a combi-magnetron. As for plates, bowls, dishes... there were three of us, and in many cases there were exactly three or four of each item- sufficient I suppose but having say 6 plates, 6 bowls, 6 forks, etc would have been better. We left behind some additional plastic ware as well as a few plastic bowls. The washing up basin and drying rack were appreciated but a towel and dishwash cloth would have gone a long way. Definitely missing: a cork screw! the bottle/ can opener did not have one and going down the metal stairs in the rain to the bar was not convenient. There are ample pots/pans/ a cutting board/ strainer and a fantastic large salad bowl. The beds were comfortable, including the ikea pull-out bed which my husband was forced to sleep on because my daughter claimed it was too snore-y and she was only going to sleep in the big bed! he slept fine there. We wish the window next to the bed opened, if even only a little bit, the window vent did nothing for air circulation and because of the rain we did not wish to leave our sliding door open all night. Breakfast was well provided for, on the weekend there was even bacon (tip to hotel, bake it in the oven, it will be crispy and done in no time) and Bolus! the rest of the days those were missing but still fresh fruit and canned, charcuterie, various breads, cakes, croissant, jams, jellies and pancakes, scrambled eggs and hard boiled, muesli, yogurts, juices, waters, coffees, teas, etc. We had dinner one evening and it was quite good- I am a cheese lover so paid the supplement for the cheese plate- don't bother- it was fine but not worth paying extra as my husband's dessert was well seen for and the portion / variety of cheese not work the extra fee- it was nice cheese, but nothing special. the wine we chose with dinner was a reasonable price and nice - I definitely recommend ordering from the wine list over the house wine. glad to see they carried Nolet gin. Note to guests the pool is well maintained but not heated - this is clearly mentioned on the hotel website, but worth pointing out to those who may not read this detail and simply see the pictures. there is a sauna but I did not have a chance to use it so cannot speak to its size/ quality, etc. Staff was friendly, and seemed to appreciate my effort to speak Dutch. They all seemed to speak (in addition to Dutch, of course) English and German and at least one made an effort in Italian and French with guests speaking those languages. We will definitely stay again, but will bring along a corkscrew and make sure we have a ground floor studio.

    Nice suprice

Nicely decorated rooms that gave a bit of a beach atmosphere. Very good staff and friendly, helpful owners. We really liked the laid back atmosphere, comfortabel beds and seats in the restaurant. Good price/quality

the best place to be with extraordinary service

we stayed the 2nd time at the hotel - next to the great place and rooms as well as breakfast and other food and beverage the service given to us was best in class and extraordinary - as one example - for the fire place there was no wood and the manager organized a special tool to have "small fire" in the fire place to have a romantic moment

    Would not come back

The hotel looks nice from the outside, close to the centre and relatively close to the beach. But... The room decor was ok. Some of the lights did not, there were no electric sockets by the mirror, the bathroom was flooding each time we had a shower. The toiletries were in those little plastic bottles - neither practical nor sustainable. And being on the first floor meant that whenever the guests below us were having a cigarette outside, the smoke was coming straight in. We had a drink at the bar downstairs. The staff like to see the rom key tag themselves - just in case you're lying in which room you're staying... But the worst was still to come - breakfast. We were abruptly shoved into a side room by a woman who kept speaking to us in German. A very basic room, horrible coffee, tables not wiped after leaving guests. Due to the pandemic they cling wrap a few slices of cheese and ham, a massive bunch of bread and cakes, chucked in a bunch of those single use plastic pots of jam and melted cheese - all that in a makeshift wooden crate dumped on the table. There was a small portion of melon (not seasonal and not local obvs) and a boiled egg, but overall very poor in fresh nutritious produce. The only credit we can give is to the reception staff - they were actually really nice and helpful.
