Such a waste, used to be so good, 3 owners later its just goneShame on this previously gem of a place, Check our our previous review and the (former) owners response (they wanted to print it and hang on the wall) Since then weve stayed in various forms (couple, solo business and family) as the hotel went through 2 owner changes, and since the departure of Sam who cared for the place as if it was his own, not to mention the changes in the breakfast menu, you can tell the place is well past its glory, and in Santa Cruz there are just enough options. The room we stayed in last time (beside the main office) was something about else, wife couldnt sleep (between the phone in the office ringing off the hook to the party upstairs that lasted beyond 3:30am) it was just so far from our past experiences, noting that our last two stays hinted at whats to come.. This place used to have personality and charm and now its like McDonalds acquired the local diner. The location is the same (ok) but you cant help but notice the big changes. Pros: comfortable beds, trees and wooden table outside Cons: noise, very low water pressure, broken curtains, no help with luggage (many stairs!) very basic breakfast, impersonal touch (we stayed over a dozen times before;) Staff is very open about these changes and voiced their concerns as well

Good stayStayed here for the last 3 nights of our visit to California. Inital reception by Jodie was good and very friendly. Stayed in the Contessa room which was large, clean and spacious. Beds were very comfortable. The provision of a safe would be a good touch in such a large room. Room was extremely noisy late night/early morning as it was next to the main road. Breakfast was not worth bothering with as only fruit, small muffins/cakes and an omelette cut up into slices and left on a sharing plate. Asked if there was toast and cereal and was told everything available was laid out in the breakfast room. Very quirky hotel in its own little oasis.

our stay at the babbling brook inn santa cruzthis was a treat for me and my wife and we are from the uk . we decided on this quirky small hotel because it look cool and we were not disappointed we chose the artisan room which has a small deck and a hot tub ... the room was great and very clean ...the bed was so comfortable it was better than my own bed at home. my wife loved the feel of this boutique hotel....however their were 2 things that surprised me in the adverting info on hotels .com they talk of an happy hour ,which imply they have a bar ....they dont ? but do have a wine tasting and chees tasting. however when i booked the room through hotels .com they asked if i wanted any upgrades like a bottle of proseco strawberry and flowers ... i did and was charged an extra $50 or so on top of the room rate... when i got to the room they were not there ?so i went to the hotel guest desk and they said they knew nothing of this and it was hotel .com booking ???? they did know about my order because i saw it on ther computer . my advise is take your own booze and dont order anything as i still have not been refunded or apologized to by any one ...

No heat in November? Ridiculous. We had several problems with our stay: We were left standing in the rain to check in because the front office was closed at 6:30 pm, our room looked nothing like the photos, the office was deserted during the day -- but the deal-breaker was the room had no heat. None. It was 42 degrees out and we had to sleep in our down jackets, literally. When we got back to our room around 10:00pm we discovered that there was no thermostat, no heating vents, and no heat. We tried to complain the next morning but the office was empty at 8:00 am. We called the after-hours number and it went to voicemail (Again, this is 8:00 am on a Saturday morning). We called Hotels.com and they had the same experience - no answer, straight to VM. Over the next several hours we called the number repeatedly, went to the office, as we hung on the phone with Hotels.com. At 11:00 am Hotels.com finally relented and transferred us to another property (Thank you Samuel) No heat in November? Ridiculous.
