  A lovely rural restaurant

  Web had a great family meal here in late September 2018 - the restaurant is nicely decorated in a traditional rustic style, the waiting staff were excellent (they speak good English - even if they dont think they do!) and most importantly the food was most delicious. A fabulous place to spend the evening. Highly recommended.

  Things have not improved

  After a couple of poor experiences, my wife refuses to eat in this restaurant. So as she was away on a business trip, I thought I would go on my own and see if it had improved. It was a beautiful warm evening and the restaurant is situated in a lovely setting. However I opted to sit inside to avoid the flies. Service was prompt and the waiter was attentive. In spite it being at least three years since I last ate in this restaurant, the menu had not changed and was still very limited. I ordered a Ficelle Picarde which is a crepe filled with ham, mushrooms and garlic in a cheese sauce, plus duck a lorange on the set menu for 28.50 The Ficelle Picard arrived with the sauce bubbling and it looked good. After eating a few mouthfuls I was surprised that it tasted fishy, after which I found a piece of smoked fish in it. The waiter replaced it. I had asked for the duck to be bien cuit or well cooked, as that usually means you will get it medium. When it turned up the food was barely lukewarm, there were hardly any vegetables, the sauce was more like a gravy than once based on oranges. Unfortunately the waiter had somehow mistaken my order for well cooked as A Point which is blue in France. My French is bad, but OK for ordering food usually. Also I did not recognise the meat as duck. This was not a breast, but more like a spatchcocked version. The meat was tough and fatty. I complained and decided not to have dessert in case they messed up the ice cream. The lady in charge refused to deduct the cost of the duck. I hate sending food back and I did not fancy this duck reheated. So I paid the bill and left.....never to return.

  Poor Hotel good facilities

  The location was a very nice place it was in a scenic area of France. However, being the only hotel in Argoules meant that they almost had a monopoly over the area, the food prices were extremely expensive and wasnt actually all too filling. The rooms were nice enough however the carpet had stains in which isnt nice when arriving at 8pm at night. Adding to this some of the bed sheets had some stains on which were not appealing to sleep on. The staff in the restaurant were friendly enough however the management less so. It was a nice idea to have a lovely field at the back where you could play games or sunbathe and the swimming pool was an added bonus even though it wasnt warm. My biggest concern was the closing times, the bar closed at 10pm and the last order of food was 8.30pm , I understand its a family business however it is still a hotel and the customers needs should be first. So I believe that it should be opened later to cater for customers who wish to spend longer at the bar. I would not return since it was a fair distance from the biggest city and there were not many international tourists in the area which meant you felt outnumbered.

  A lovely late summer break.

  We stayed here with my 85 year old Mother in law and had a very restful, relaxing holiday. Extremely comfortable beds and overall a very comfortable stay. Staff were all very friendly and could do no more to make our stay enjoyable. Food was good and average price compared to other nearby restaurants.

  Good restaurant and pleasant stay

  Lovely quiet location with good food and welcoming staff. Room was simple and the double bed a little small and the mattress dipped but all clean and well equipped. Parking and a nice relaxing garden area at the rear.
