A foodies paradise with added bedrooms

Lovely friendly check in, basic but clean room, quirky decor and dinner to die for. Being a single female I don't usually eat in the restaurants of hotels, so it's either room service or nothing. The friendly receptionist told me the hotel was quiet so I chanced a solo table. A good varied menu, brought over by a very well dressed waiter. Fresh warm bread, 3 types of butter (curry butter is the future!) Fresh pesto pasta, beautifully presented. Then Dame Blanch...for the initiated its 'just' ice-cream and chocolate sauce, home made ice cream, fresh cream, crumbed biscuits and loads of hot chocolate sauce...delicious! Add to that the receptionist recommended a beautiful white wine. All I needed and more after a long hard day at work. Breakfast was basic but fresh and tasty. Lovely hotel, lovely Staff and delicious food.

Peaceful, classy, and refreshingly out of the way

In this dense, busy, and traffic-ridden corner of Belgium, this Auberge offers a classy oasis at a reasonable price. While Enghien is an old centre with ancient narrow streets, sitting close to a motorway, it has a magnificent large treed park and it is in this that the Auberge is nestled. So peaceful, yet a short walk in to the city centre with its restaurants and shops. This is a boutique hotel with a large and refined dining room and bar, a delightful breakfast room lit by skylights, and a series of nicely sized rooms arranged around an interior courtyard, all backing on to a forest. There is a football practice pitch and track next door and ample parking across the quiet street. No through traffic here. My room was large, clean, and quiet. The young couple who run the place (only recently having taken over from relatives) are quietly professional. They demonstrate fine taste in the furnishing and especially the food. The included breakfast buffet was excellent and well presented. On the evening I took the set dinner menu made available to guests I was astounded by the quality given the price (25 Euro). Gazpacho starter, artisanal breads and butters, lamb main, and a light dessert. I was also surprised to find out from the proprietors that I was a rare tourist in the area. (I used this location as a base from which to visit both Waterloo and Vimy Ridge.) Apparently their clientele is mostly business people working on the outskirts of Brussels, and athletes using the football pitch and track. Based on my experience, the Auberge deserves a closer look from leisure travelers who value quiet quality.

Friendly, good food, good service, minor fixable issues

This is a really friendly hotel with spacious rooms and crisp clean bedsheets. The evening menu is marvellous (if you are particularly fond of fish) and the service is great. Nice setting next to the park and on a private wooded road. I'm on my second stay here and as a regular visitor to Ath by train, this place is convenient too. Free wifi, friendly staff, comfortable beds, plenty of sockets, good tea selection in the stylish bar...lots of plus points here!! I would have given it top rating except for a few (easily fixable) issues - 1. There is no air conditioning. There are also no portable fans available to make the humid conditions more comfortable at night. 2. There are no mosquito repellent plug-in units. Both of the above have resulted in some slightly uncomfortable nights and irritated days. 3. It would also be nice to replace some of the dishes on the very fish-biased menu with alternative vegetarian and meat options, as I have now exhausted the menu I after only two restaurant visits, due to a fish allergy. 4. A fridge is provided but there are no tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

The best food and sweet staff

The room: big, great bathroom, rainshower. The staff: really sweet. The food: marvelous! Dinner was excellent, the chef Ivone is great. Enghien is a really nice place, you can go for beautifull hikes. We had a great time, we immensely enjoyed the delicious food and felt welcome with Ivone and Erwin, the Flemish-Portuguese owners. And let's not forget the maître d'hotel!

very poor simple and basic little expensive

the hotel is very basic and the price is high. better to try other location. The bed linen and towels are poor and the room are like the 80s. You are on your own, not safety no people on duty. The owner is very friendly but he does almost everything by himself.
