    Authentic French Experience

We had 2 standard rooms for a 2 night stay which were located in the loft. The accommodations were very clean and comfortable, although not overly spacious. Tall people would probably find staying in these rooms awkward as the roof is sloped both in the bedroom and bathroom area. Because of the one small window, it is also very dark in the room. Brighter lighting would have been appreciated. The Auberge itself is very quaint and the owner extremely helpful and friendly. We dined at the restaurant one night and the food was sensational. One of the best meals we had during our 5 week holiday. Thaon is a lovely little town, great for walking around, but there is nothing else to do there. But, for us, this was one of the attractions of the place. You definitely need a car to get around to see the sights of the area. It was a great base from which to visit the landing beaches as well as Mont Saint Michel and towns such as Bayeux, which we enjoyed very much. The surrounding countryside is beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this accommodation.

    disappointed

So looking forward to this visit but let down by the poor service from the waitress who has lost interest in her job..Not very civil and every request was met by a sullen look. The food does not justify three pots or the choice available. The quality and quantity was poor. The wine selection was good but not great. The room was the best part of this visit good size clean but if you were late showering the water would run cool. The breakfast was continental but expensive. We were on the first floor and had a tap dancer above us.Desserts were could have been bought in from the local 8to8. The entrance is on a crossroads which made it very difficult to enter and leave.

Our new favourite hotel in France

We decided to end our Spring vacation in the Lot department with a change. Normally, we take afternoon ferry from Ouistreham. However, since I am getting older and the wife insisted that we change our 3 litre diesel Jag for a 1 litre petrol Ford B-Max. I wanted a little leeway in a long journey and have never enjoyed the overnight ferries, even if you utilise a Commodore cabin. So I decided to utilise Tripadviser to research a suitable hotel, which is comfortable, offered good food and within 30 minutes of Ouistreham. In the Auberge de la Mue we struck the jackpot! We booked a comfort room at 70 a night which was terrific value. However, we can think of two improvements. The offering of tea and coffee tray. Which is becoming more difficult as instant coffee has disappeared from French supermarkets. I would had preferred a soak in a hot bath after a 9 hour drive, but the shower/ bathroom provided is one of the best that I have experienced in a small hotel. The owners do not speak any English, but a waitress has a fair understanding. So when the waitress left after working at the large wedding held in the afternoon, we used a translator app on the iPad to communicate. On arrival they did advise that the kitchen was closed after the wedding. However, they took pity upon us and provided an excellent meal. The best chips that I have eaten and that I have sought for a number of years. These are friendly and professional hoteliers offering a great product. We will return both as a transit hotel and resort hotel, staying a few days.

Totally French. However, with a smile!

Our second visit and as before we intend to catch the early ferry from Ouistreham. The room is as good as ever and the rather simple three course meal at 21 euros is truly excellent, as is the very good carafe of wine @ 6.50 euros. The owners do not have a single word of English but are extremely professional hoteliers and very friendly and with a little understanding on all sides, overcomes any problems with the benefit of our poor French. I would recommend this Auberge rather than the uncomfortable and much more expensive option of a night crossing with Brittany Ferry.

Great little place to stay en route to & from channel ports

Lovely characterful stone converted farm buildings, our room in the separate house was clean & comfy. Food & wine were great. Handy location to visit Caen, D-Day landing beaches & memorial museums plus Le Mont St Michel.
