    Poor for the price

While Megeve is generally expensive, £200 a night for a room in a 3 star hotel is still punchy and you expect more than we got. It's quite an attractive hotel in a Swiss lodge kind of way, but the outdoor pool is clearly summer only (given it was iced over). We got a friendly welcome and generally the staff were good, but they'd had a mysterious incident involving the departure of the kitchen staff and it seemed to have badly affected things. Breakfast was very basic, with only scrambled eggs and an egg boiler (which didn't have enough water in so you had to flip the egg to make sure it was cooked properly). There was some choice in terms of bread, cheese, ham etc, but even the fresh juice cost 5 Euros extra, and the coffee was pretty bad (again, a supplement was payable for a decent one). The real issue we had was in the evening when we wanted to sit in the bar for a few drinks before going out (there were 7 of us). The first evening, they ran out of bottled beer very quickly. The second evening they said the bar was shut because the restaurant was shut (though it had been shut the night before too). When pressed, the chap said (a) there was a big group staying and if he served us he'd have to serve all of them (which makes no sense - why not serve all of them?!); and (b) he was having his dinner! When I complained about this, they admitted that they had no alcohol in stock, yet there's a Carrefour virtually next door. In the end they dropped the mini-bar costs from our bill, but I've never experienced anything like it and it put a downer on the stay. My room was ok though on the ground floor so you couldn't leave the window open (which was a shame as it was way too hot in there). The bed was comfy and the shower pretty decent (though I much prefer a walk-in than a bath-shower), but the light was really annoying. When you entered the room, half the time it didn't work and you had to keep pressing it or resort to putting a lamp on. It's a good location, only a few minutes' walk from the main lift. And once they sort out the staffing/bar issues maybe it will be worth 3 or even 4 stars. But not for our stay.

    Didnt like it.

We changed the room to one with lower rate since the one we were staying in had a child in the next room that kept crying and we couldnt sleep. They refused to give us the price difference. They said it was because booking refused but when I contacted booking they said that the hotel refused and then the receptionist told me that the supervisor refused to give us the price difference which was a significant amount! I wont be staying here again and I wouldnt recommend it to anyone just for that not to mention that its overpriced. Also, the hotel itself is old and needs renovation and the elevators were ancient, The WiFi was super bad. When we asked for a bag rack said they dont have one when we saw one in the hallway but then brought us one when we pointed that out. But the location of the hotel is great and some of the staff were nice during our stay.

    Helpful staff

A good hotel with pleasnat public rooms. The double "Charme" bedroom was fine with a view of the mountains out of the double glazed window which also had curtains that blocked out all light very well. Bathroom with all the expected facilities. Self service breakfast was up to a reasonable standard. surprisingly the restaurant was closed for renovations though there was no evidence of any work going on and I thought it strange that a restaurant in a ski resort would close for renovations in January - another guest thought it more likely that their chef had fallen out with management at short notice! The hotel has an arrangement with Pelloux Sport for overnight storage of skis and sticks at there shop convenient to to the Chamois lift - the one you will use to get up to the skiing areas. Possibly arrange discounts on ski hire. We had booked ski hire through the tout organiser (Iglu Ski) which was with Phillip Sport a long walk from the hotel and not to be recommended simply due to its location in respect of the hotel, though they did deliver the skis to the hotel and collect them at the end of the hire.
