very nice hotel in quiet village just 5 miles from the vineyard area

Booked two rooms, one family and one double for the grand parents, both were comfortable, very clean with balcony. Staff was super friendly and helpful breakfast was excellent. The hotel also has a very good restaurant. The only downside, the swimming pool was a little bit crowded ; however my two daughters did enjoy it.

Review of restaurant - V convenient location - but not worth a foodie detour

New Years Day in Alsace - other than hotels or tourist areas - is closed We have been to the Nid before (part of the Hotel Utzmann) and although there are a number of pleasant separated seating areas it's huge and does cater for coaches - your call - it that's OK, fine! Our New Years Day lunch was a bit 50/50. The Poulet au Riesling (plus pasta) was pretty much OK but the choucroute pecheur, whilst having loads of decent lumps of fish - it has to be said not all tasted that great - the waitress seemed to be not too interested. The eating room is particularly quaint with old fashioned decor and you will feel very comfortable there but I suspect this is not one to trouble the Michelin team. Go here for the convenience of proximity to Colmar, the main Colmar/Strasbourge "A" road/Cora hypermarché (!!), Ribeauvillé and Riquewhir.

    Good stopover but nothing more

We stayed here for three nights whilst visiting Alsace which we know quite well and decided to stay here for a change. This is quite a large hotel in the village of Ostheim which is pleasant enough but nothing of particular note. The hotel does not have it's own parking so you park in the village square opposite the hotel and that wasn't a problem as there were plenty of spaces when we were there. We were given a nice welcome on reception when we arrived and our room was very pleasant, it was large and modern with a stylish bathroom area. There was a complementary bottle of water in the room on arrival but we noted that it was not replaced on the two following mornings which always annoys me as I believe you should get the same service if you are staying one night or three, you should not be penalised for staying longer. On that note we were not impressed by the chambermaid service - after our first night we left our towels thrown over the towel rail, we were being polite by not chucking them on the bathroom floor and they were not replaced so the next day we did chuck them on the floor! Also when we arrived the bed was nicely made with cushions and a throw but after that the duvet was just pulled up which looked a complete mess, I've never come across that in a hotel before. We ate dinner in the hotel on all three evenings and we could not fault the food. We had excellent meals on all three occasions and were looked after by the absolutely delightful Nicole who is charming, efficient, helpful, speaks perfect English and is an enormous asset to this hotel. On our first evening which was a Saturday night the restaurant was extremely busy and noisy though I have to say the speed and standard of service and quality and presentation of food could not be faulted. It should be noted that this hotel does cater for coaches which I had not realised when I booked the hotel and there was a coach party in whilst we were there but to be fair the hotel does endeavour to keep them slightly apart, they dine in a separate dining room. We ate breakfast in the hotel the first morning we were there but it was a bit of a bun fight as it was terribly busy with long queues for the coffee machine which then broke down! We decided it was not worth the 10 each so bought a coffee and a croissant from the boulangerie opposite for the next couple of mornings. The hotel has a very nice and smart indoor pool which is a nice temperature. It is small though and when the hotel was busy it was vastly overcrowded. There is a pleasant decking area beside the open doors of the swimming pool with tables and chairs but it was boiling hot when we were there and there were no sun umbrellas to be seen so we couldn't sit there. The hotel is very Alsatian in style and somewhat old fashioned particularly in the reception area and could do with an update. The dining room is modern but the whole hotel lacks style. There's no lounge area to relax in or cocktail bar to have a pre or after dinner drink only a bar to one side of the restaurant where the staff get the drinks. We had a pleasant stay here which was enhanced by the lovely Nicole and the good food in the evenings but the hotel is somewhat utilitarian and for that reason we would not stay here again.

    Restaurant: Incredible lunch offer

We were on a road trip from Germany to Colmar and tried to find a place for lunch on our way. Before we came here we drove through several villages but everything was closed. It was a coincidence that we ended up here and we were really happy with that. They offer this amazing daily changing deal for lunch, 3 courses for only 12 Euros!! It was delicious. Also, the staff is really nice and helpful. Our French is not fluent at all but everybody tried their best to communicate with us (some of them speak a little bit English). We would come here again.
