A small slice of heaven nestled in the paddy fieldsWe stayed for 3 nights and absolutely loved it here. Staff were so welcoming and friendly and organised a driver to meet us at Denpasar airport. Room was enormous and bed so comfortable. Great to sit out on terrace and take in the sounds of nature, the beautiful paddy field, sipping a Bintang whilst playing backgammon. As a city dweller it was great to be lulled to sleep every night by geckos, frogs and cicadas. Clear skies meant an abundance of stars. We took a local walking tour with Dedi an engaging guide from the hotel and he gave us a great insight into the local area and the crops grown alongside rice which concluded with a refreshing swim in Banyuatis waterfall. Dedi also took us on a half day trek to the 3 main waterfalls in Munduk which was great. Would definitely recommend both of these walks. In summary this is a wonderful haven to recharge your batteries in peace surrounded by nature.

Lovely quite place with amazing foodNice and quite place amidst the ricefields. Staff is superfriendly and speaks perfect english. All food seems to be home-cooked. We enjoyed hiking the nearby waterfalls, balinese massage and exploring the surrounding area by scooter. Would definitely come back here.

The good, the bad and the noisy!First the good stuff: the staff are lovely and friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Breakfast and dinner were lovely, especially the bright green banana pancake, which I think was made using a banana leaf for the colour? Also, in a progressive move, the hotel offers a free water bottle filling service from a filtered water tank, instead of giving you fresh water bottles in your room, and uses bamboo straws for drinks - great initiative that other hotels could learn from. Our dinner was accompanied by one of the young staff members playing some Balinese music, which was also nice. The room, although quite dark, was specious, with a huge bathroom, great shower and nice balcony overlooking the rice fields. We were given a map by the hotel and found the Banyuatis waterfall, which was deserted and rustic, but worth the climb down. Now for the not-so-good. The Villa really is in the middle of nowhere, down a bumpy dirt track, and not in Munduk, as we first thought. This is fine, if you know what to expect, but we did get a bit of a shock. The village of Banyuatis is a short walk away, up a steep hill. We were heckled by some local guys on motorbikes, even though we were observing the conservative dress code, the one and only time this happened to us in Bali. There is no airconditioning in the rooms, as the villa is quite high above sea level. There was also no mirror of any description in the room itself, resulting in my sister and I vying for the only mirror, in the bathroom. At the end of our stay, their credit card machine wouldn't work, so I had to drive to the village with one of the staff, to draw money at an ATM. This was annoying as we had a full day tour booked, with the drive waiting, so this cut into our plan. And the noisy.... although Atres Villas is in a remote location, the peace and quiet was punctuated continually by shouts and the banging of what sounded like pan lids being struck by a metal spoon by the farmers protecting their rice crops surrounding the villa, from birds. This starts at dawn, when the birds become active, and is necessary to scare the birds off when the rice ripens. It continues until dusk. Worse: we were aware of the ceremony at the local temple, which apparently happens every year, and even went to see the temple. However, what we were not prepared for was the loudspeaker chanting that began blasting at 5am, first by a woman, who was joined after an hour, in a wailing duet by a man. This went on for another two hours. We were told this happens every morning. We stayed At Atres Villas for one night, so may not have got the whole vibe, but I do believe this is something the villa should let visitors know when they book.

Loved our stayVery relaxing spot near the center of Munduk. Great place to come home to after a day of exploring Munduk and its suroundings. Lovely pool and nice people. Nice breakfast which is included in the room rate. We had bungalow number 5, which is a bit more private. We loved sitting in front of our bungalow (which is huge!) around 5 and seeing the sun set while looking at the rice fields. We would defenitely come back if we would ever go to Munduk again.

Really nice, quiet true Balinese experience. In really beautiful area. The Banyuatis Waterfall in a short walk through ricefields. Mountains all around. Food really good, beer relatively cheap. Balinese huts some overlooking a lovely swimming pool. High enough to be cool at night, so no airconditioning needed!!
